1st Primary School of Almyros – February Issue – The Real English Breakfast

breakfast.jpg
THE REAL ENGLISH BREAKFAST
by Maria I.

The English breakfast is quite heavy and it is not something that they eat every day. They often eat is as ‘brunch’ (something between breakfast and lunch), because if you eat it, you will not be hungry for many many hours. The beverage they prefer in the morning is the one they enjoy during the day, meaning tea. They usually put milk and sugar in their tea. But, what is there to eat?

 Sausage baked in the grill. The English sausages are very strange, they have less spices than ours.
 Grilled bacon, or even fried.
 Eggs sunny-side-up.
 Tomatoes cut in half and baked until they are soft and warm enough.
 Mushrooms. They are usually roasted with a little olive oil, cooked enough to be crunchy.
 Toasted bread. They usually spread plenty of butter on it.
 Beans. They don’t usually boil them, they get them from tins.

Except for all these, there are also many more things to eat. They usually include black pudding, brownies, pancakes and fried potatoes. Also, there is always a bottle of ketchup, or brown sauce on the table. What do you think? Can you eat all these and not get a stomach ache?

ENGLISH BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL
by Evi N.

On February 19th, me and all my other classmates ate English breakfast at school, during our English lesson.

We had a cup of tea with milk and sugar, milk with cereals and pancakes with chocolate syrup. Yum!!! They were delicious! All those years I’ve lived in England, in London, I’ve never eaten this kind of breakfast before. I knew the English ‘brunch’ (something between breakfast and lunch).

We had a great time. Also, pancakes are healthy, so we could all have them for breakfast. Anyway, the English breakfast was very good and I hope I will eat some more some time soon! Yum!!!

1st Primary School of Almyros – February Issue – Πρόγευμα στην Δ’ Τάξη

olive.jpg

1st Primary School of Almyros – February Issue – Η Τρελομάσκα

mask.jpg

1st Primary School of Almyros – February Issue – Καρναβάλι / Carnival

clown.jpg

CARNIVAL
by Debbie K.

According to an opinion, the word ‘carnival’ comes from the Italian language, from the word ‘carne’ which means ‘meat’ and the word ‘vale’ that means ‘bye bye’. Thus, it refers to a period when people stop eating meat. According to another point of view, the word ‘carnival’ is of Latin origin, from ‘carne: meat’ and ‘levare: stop’, which again means that we do not eat meat.

1st Primary School of Almyros – February Issue – Το Καρναβάλι της Βραζιλίας

brazil-carnival.jpg

corfu.jpg

1st Primary School of Almyros – February Issue – The Carnival of Venice

mask2.jpg
THE CARNIVAL OF VENICE
by Jim M.

When it is carnival time, we wear masks and costumes to have fun, but some cities take this time more seriously. In these places decorations, masks and costumes are innumerable for local people and visitors. One of those cities is Venice, which is located in the north of Italy. It is a city which is also well-known for its canals, for the houses that are over the water and its beautiful gondolas.

The preparations start months before the beginning of the carnival. For the world famous masks they use simple colours, like white, black, gold, silver or a mixture of these last colours. They are simple, but they have a perfect design and shape. Their history dates back in the Medieval Ages, when the aristocrats used the masks to get out of palaces easily and seduce women. One of these aristocrats was Jacomo Casanova.

The costume themes are also old, just like Comedia dell’ Arte, with harlequins who represent poor people with their costumes. Another well-known person was Dotore, the doctor of the plague. This costume includes a black uniform and the mask of a hawk, in memory of the illness that cost a lot of lives in Venice.

According to travel agents, magazines and my personal opinion, Venice at this time is a wonderful city with magnificent shows for people of all ages. I think that you should visit this city to see also kings, queens and soldiers under the starry sky of Venice!

PELOPONESSUS
by Anastasia and Mary A.

Peloponessus is the south part of landlocked Greece. It has seven districts (Argolida, Arkadia, Achaia, Elia, Corinthia, Laconia and Messenia). It has a shape that looks like a pergola leaf. That’s because it has many gulfs and many nazes. Peloponessus has a climate that is generally Mediterranean. In the winter, the climate is chillier and more freezing in the mountains than at its sea areas. It is rainier at its east part than it is at the west (it is less rainy in Pyrgos than in Nafplio).

1st Primary School of Almyros – November Issue – Σχολική Λέσχη

board-game.jpg

1st Primary School of Almyros – November Issue – Ηλεκτρονική Αδελφοποίηση Σχολείων

etwinning.jpg

(www.etwinning.gr)

1st Primary School of Almyros – November Issue – Εφημερίδα Στ’ Τάξης

school-paper.jpg
