Western Greece PE.K.E.S consists of 43  Educational Work Coordinators

The “Regional Center for Educational Planning (PEKES  of Western Greece”   is headquartered in Patras and constitutes the regional structure of educational support for Primary and Secondary Education in the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Western Greece (RDEWG) . It is a decentralized educational structure of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and its work is supported by the Institute of Educational Policy and the General Directorate of Studies of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. It was established by the Law 4547/2018 (Government Gazette 102 / t.Α ‘/ 12-06-2018) (article 4 par. d) “Reorganization of the supportive structures for primary and secondary education and other regulations”.

The mission of  PE.K.E.S. D.E. is:

  • to focus on educational planning
  • to monitor, coordinate and support educational work of the public and private schools as well as the Laboratory Centers
  • to coordinate the Counseling Support Centers, the Educational Centers for Sustainability and the Laboratory Science Centers in their area of responsibility
  • to provide teachers with the scientific and pedagogical support in both public and private education in primary and secondary schools
  • to plan and offer training – including the introductory one – to teachers
  • at regional level to support planning and assessing educational work of school units

In accordance with the above, the mission of PE.K.E.S. in Western Greece is the implementation of its aims among schools, teachers and structures of the Region of Western Greece. Our vision is the moto: “We design collectively and we support school community in a cooperative and interdisciplinary way.”

To implement its scope PEKES of Western Greece seeks broader cooperation schemes and partnerships with Higher Education Institutions which mainly operate in Western Greece, the Education Directorates of the three Regional Units of Western Greece and the Regional Governance. In addition, it looks forward to proposals for cooperation with local community entities and associations aw well as to European and international partnerships which can contribute to the promotion of its purpose and objectives.

Each PE.K.E.S is composed of the Educational Work Coordinators, who are highly qualified and scientifically educated teachers, and cover all subjects of education provided in schools. Additionally, they are appointed after an assessment of their objective qualifications and a personal interview. Each Educational Work Coordinator has the scientific responsibility for all the teachers in his scientific subject all well as the Laboratory Centres which belong to PE.K.E.S of Western Greece for the issues concerning his/her field. They also have the pedagogical responsibility of a group of schools which have been assigned by the Regional Education Director’s decision.

Specifically, Western Greece PE.K.E.S consists of 35 Educational Work Coordinators of various scientific subjects with headquarters in Patras while 8 more Educational Work Coordinators who belong to other PE.K.E.Ss but additionally offer their duty to PE.K.E.S of Western Greece.

PE.K.E.S. is headed by an Organizational Coordinator and a Deputy Organizational Coordinator each one from a different level of education.

In PE.K.E.S of  Western Greece Dr. Spyridon Papadakis, Educational Work Coordinator of Computer Science, was appointed as Organizational Coordinator and Dr Demetrios Zisimopoulos, Educational Work Coordinator of Special Education & Inclusive Education was appointed as Deputy Organizational Coordinator. Their duty finishes on 31th July, 2021.

Critical Literacy in Literature subjects, Special Education and Training in Digital Learning Platforms are among the actions planned for the school year 2018-19.

The Regional Center for Educational Planning (RCEP) of Western Greece is a newly established educational structure which has under their responsibility about 1,150 school units, 12,000 teachers and 90,000 students.

In this context, our center encourages and supports both the organization and implementation of innovative programs or actions, in accordance with the education policy priorities, as well as the needs of each member of the school community and the whole society in a wider sense.

Productive Learning is an educational process leading to the development of a person’s role in the community as well as bringing about change within the community itself. The process is realized by an itinerary of product-oriented activities in real-life situations in an educational experience within a group that is facilitated by educators.

The Interregional Thematic Network Internet Security (ITNIS)

The Interregional Thematic Network Internet Security (ITNIS) is a Thematic Network of seven hundred (700) public schools of  Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education, licensed by the Regional Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia, Western Greece, Crete, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. There is also a Cooperation Agreement among all the above and the  and 1st and 2nd Regional Centres for Educational Planning of the South Aegean, the 2nd Regional Centre of the North Aegean and the 3rd Regional Centre of Attica.

It aims to educate and train teachers in experiential education with the active participation of students throughout their preschool, kindergarten and post-secondary education, as well as their parents, about the safe use of the Internet, ways and practices of risk prevention in relation to social networks and other emerging technologies and phenomena.
