The 4th GE.L. of Rhodes participated in the Panhellenic Student Competition organised by Panhellenic Association of Laboratory Centres of Natural Sciences for the qualification to the European Olympiad of Experiments of Natural Sciences EOES 2023 and was held in Athens on 28 January 2023.
This competition is attended by students of the 1st and 2nd class, and its objective is to promote the teaching of Natural Sciences in Secondary Education through many laboratory activities of Physics, Chemistry and Biology related to the curriculum of the Lyceum and linked to daily experience.
Our journey started from the local competition that took place in December 2022 under the responsibility of the National Natural Sciences Laboratory Centre of Rhodes. Our school participated with two groups of three students each, the training of which was undertaken by the teachers of Biology: C. Angelides and A. Tenende, the teachers of physics: Th. Matzavinou and E. Flouri and the teachers of chemistry: S. Koupadi and E. Pilini and of course with the full support and assistance of the Director, Mr. Karagiannis Vassilis, Physicist.
The first place in the local competition was taken by the students Karamolegkou Argyro, Kousoutzi Panagiota and Schisa Stefania — Agapi, who won the qualification and went to Athens to claim the first place in the Panhellenic competition, accompanied by teachers of Biology Mr Tenende Angeliki and Mr. Angelidis Christina. There, despite the huge competition, they managed to bring a very good place among all the schools in Greece that qualified. The GE.L. of Naxos along with the GE.L. of Agioi Anargyroi won the 1st place and they will represent our country in the European Olympiad.
At this point, we would like to thank Mr. Koliadis Alexandros, President of the M.O.C.S.R.(Municipal Organization of Culture and Sports of Rhodes), for his immediate response and full support. Without the valuable help of Mr. Koliadis and the M.O.C.S.R., who covered all the travel expenses, none of the above could be realised.
