Supporting the fellow man in the 4th GEL of Rhodes never stops
The 4th GEL, for another year, as part of its actions for the holy days of Christmas and New Year, gathered food for the needs of the Red Cross of Rhodes, showing once again its sensitivity towards every person who is struggling with the coverage of their basic needs. All the children of our school, their families and the teachers’ association massively expressed their willingness to offer, bringing food and organizing the whole action with coordinators Mr. Thomoglou Konstantinos and Mrs Tatsis Friday and the 15-member board of our school.
Teaching in 2022 was a wild ride.
This calendar year marked a return to normal schooling since the start of the pandemic: Nearly all districts resumed full in-person instruction, and most dropped their masking requirements. Yet some of the most pressing challenges of the past three years—staffing shortages, academic declines, the lingering effects of sickness, mental health issues, and teacher stress and burnout—still plagued schools.
And the politicization of education continued, with public scrutiny and debate on how teachers taught about race, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Attempts to ban books from schools and classrooms expanded.

Anniversary of the Asia Minor disaster.
Commemoration for the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor disaster.
A commemoration event for the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor disaster took place at the 4th Lyceum of Rhodes. The event was attended in three separate presentations by the students of the 1st (6.12.2022), 2nd and 3 rd Lyceum (9.12 2022).
In the first part, the teachers of our school Antonis Anifantakis and Panagiotis Athanasopoulos presented an open lesson on the causes, events and consequences of the Asia Minor disaster and texts and testimonies were read by students aloud.
In the second part, a documentary about the Asia Minor military destruction was screened and the event closed with songs from Asia Minor and Istanbul, which were sung by students of our school.
