MAY – HISTORY & CITIZENSHIP
The role of animals in history: a collaborative timeline
Animals have been essential to human history because they have always aided man in the survival process. The first animal to be domesticated was the luoi, which later became man’s most faithful friend: the dog. Subsequently, other animals were domesticated, such as sheep, cows, buffalo, chickens, and so on. They all helped man forage for food and, later, work the fields with the discovery of agriculture. If the human species has survived throughout history, it is thanks to the precious presence of animals.

International Day of Bees (May 20): a poster about animal rights.
May 20th is World Bee Day. You can share a lesson on the importance of bees as sentinels of environmental well-being and guarantors of environmental sustainability.
In 1978, an important document called the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights was created. It was presented at the UNESCO in Paris. This declaration says that animals are living beings and they have rights, just like people.
The declaration teaches us that animals should be respected and protected.
Animals have the right to live and be free, and they must not be hurt or treated badly. They have the right to be cared for and should not be abandoned. Animals also have the right to live in a place that is good for them. If animals work with humans, they must be treated kindly and not overworked.
This document helps us understand that animals are our friends, and we must be kind to them every day.

A questionnaire to measure the relationship between well-being and animals: how animals make our lives better

We’re collaborating on a static analysis to demonstrate how pets improve our lives, making us feel loved and cared for. This is scientifically proven to happen, but will our students confirm these results?

The children created drawings using chatGPT and colored them using pastels. These drawings allowed the children to reflect specifically on the problem of stray animals, which primarily affects dogs and cats. This problem was the result of direct observation, especially by some students in my class who were fortunate enough to participate in an Erasmus exchange in Thessaloniki. In this beautiful city, they met the students of teacher Maria Chounou, who is involved in this project and who organized a wonderful event for us with a volunteer association that provides assistance and care for stray animals. In Thessaloniki, there are many abandoned dogs and cats, but people help them by feeding them. This was a wonderful experience for everyone. Here is the link to the article written by Ombretta Bucci upon her return, which summarizes the entire exchange.
As you can see in the video, these paintings were given to each class at the host school, and were a great success.

Digital artworks about animals
Dear colleagues, entertain your children using the DADA tablet/mobile app, drawing inspiration from Arcimboldo’s works. You can use IA tool if you prefer (canva, Chatgpt or other). Then upload your works to the digital gallery. Happy crafting!
A. Anselmi Primary school of Arcevia-Italy (Teacher Ombretta Bucci)
My students had a lot of fun creating these modern images with the DADA app. They worked in pairs, deciding which background to use and which figures to add. The final products were often funny and engaging. First, the teacher presented some works by the famous Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, and the children drew inspiration from him.
FEBRUARY/MARCH
Creation of a common intercultural playlist of songs about animals
DURING THE FEBRUARY/MARCH ACTIVITIES, WE ALSO HAVE TO SING A SONG ABOUT ANIMALS.
Science: “Our Little Encyclopedia” – Online quizzes and games (Wordwall, LearningApps)
On this page, you can include documentation of an animal that students have observed directly, for example, by raising it in class (a fish, a silkworm, a bird, an insect, a hamster) or by observing it in its natural habitat (for example, bees after a visit to a beekeeper), in a protected area, or at a zoo. In the encyclopedia, you can include photos of the animals with the children and a scientific fact sheet. Partners should read the fact sheets and discover the animals’ characteristics, then test their knowledge with online games created by the classes.
Also, this is the link for the online games that students can play in their classrooms, after creating them:

Primary School of Argyropouli- Kalliopi Doudouka-Niki Daoula- 2nd grade- Greece
Our students participated with great enthusiasm in interactive games created by their peers, all centered around the theme of animals. Through play, the children had the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and discover new information about the animal world in a fun and creative way. Their joy and engagement were truly remarkable! Congratulations to all the children for their imagination and creativity!

JANUARY – LITERATURE
Collaborative story creation: “A Sustainable World for Animals” (StoryJumper)
Let’s create a collaborative story using the simple and fun Storyjumper app. The protagonists will be animals and the goals of the 2030 Agenda, which aim to create a planet where animals are respected and have places to live peacefully. On this page, upload photos of your lesson on the 2030 Agenda and then enter the name of your class and school in the table to give coherence to the story. You can either upload children’s drawings or use the app’s tools. Photograph the students as they work.In the table, follow the goals in chronological order, trying to adapt them to the animals’ reality.

Χριστουγεννιάτικες ευχές σε ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα eTwinning
Σήμερα πραγματοποιήθηκε μια όμορφη διαδικτυακή συνάντηση στο πλαίσιο του έργου eTwinning “You are an animal” με μαθητές/τριες από σχολεία της Ιταλίας, της Τουρκίας, της Σερβίας και της Ελλάδας.

Our project: You are an animal!
hat’s an expression people often use to describe someone who behaves rudely or violently. But are animals really impolite or aggressive? Of course not!
This project invites students to explore the animal world with deep respect — a respect that grows from knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the essential role that every creature plays in maintaining the balance of life on Earth. Through interdisciplinary activities, students will embark on a fascinating journey across literature, science, art, history, and citizenship education to discover the wonderful universe of our animal friends.
