Article about our project progress in PDEDE*

(Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education in Western Greece)

*Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education in Western Greeceis an education organization under the umbrella of the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religion. It is in charge of over 1135 schools of both levels of education -primary and secondary- and a number of more than 12.150 appointed teachers of all disciplines and 90.000 students. It is one of the largest education organizations in Greece – responsible for schools and teachers in three Prefectures, Achaia, Etoloakarnania and Ilia. Its task is to co-ordinate, supplement, back up and implement the educational policies of the Ministry, along with supervising the implementation of various education projects, like European projects, in schools. Head of the Directorate is at the moment Dr. Kostas Giannopoulos. One of his primary goals is to reinforce the educational process in schools under his jurisdiction; therefore his plans include the establishment of a European Project department within the Directorate. The department monitors in a more organized basis the results of already existing European projects and provides assistance to schools wishing to participate to European projects.

Erasmus+ 2019 2nd Junior High School “Vasilopita” cake cutting in Erasmus multipurpose room!

Feb 20191

New Year traditional greek “vasilopita” cake for 2019 Erasmus+ celebration!
“Vasilopita” cake cutting on Friday February 1st in our Erasmus multipurpose classroom!
We had the opportunity to exchange new year wishes, talk about the upcoming travelling of our students to Genova, have a little treat and share news and work progress of our project with students, their families and teachers involved in the project!

Vasilopita, as a New Year Greek tradition , is cut by families on New Year’s Day or any day of the fisrt two months of the year for groups, schools, institutions, organisations etc. to bless the house , group, or organisation etc. and bring good luck for the new year! When it is only for homes this is usually done at midnight of New Year’s Eve in Greece.

A coin is hidden in the vasilopita cake by slipping it into the dough before baking. A piece of cake is sliced for each member of the family or group etc. and any visitors present at the time.

During our event here for our Erasmus project team, we did cut pieces for the 3 partner schools and then for the Greek students and teachers participating in the project in our school who will attend the meeting and celebration with their parents. First two pieces were cut for Goethe Gymnasium and Galileo Galilei High School!
But the lucky one to find the coin finally was our student Sofia Kondylopoulou .

Have all a great new Erasmus European Schools Go Green Year 2019!

The challenge of Schools Going Green

Dec 201815

The students of the three schools in Greece, Germany and Italy, taking part in the “European schools go green” – Erasmus+ project, have undertaken a major responsibility in developing a school culture that promotes sustainability, ecology and activism.

Their work on the Twinspace of the project, https://twinspace.etwinning.net/34044/home,  shows how genuinely interested both the participating students and teachers are in the well-being of the people and the planet.

During the project they have made a number of inspiring and original creations. The calendar in the beginning of 2018 included samples of their work and a lot of pictures from their meetings. The Earth Hour initiative inspired teachers all over Europe to join this  event which aimed at raising awareness to protect our planet. The sculptures and paintings, comics and superheroes, pictures of worst case scenarios and a poster of the 17 goals of sustainability are some of their authentic and imaginative creative products. They are all visible in the beautiful digital gallery they have created.

The “European Schools Go Green Quiz” as well as the “Art Quiz” add an extra element of fun in the project.

You have achieved the challenge of  Going Green in your schools.

May your amazing collaborative work inspire the citizens of your towns to think and go green too!
