Atheism: Disrespect or Egotism?

Throughout the history of humankind, we have the True Religion, false religions, agnosticism and atheism.
The True Faith is from divine revelation. This is the religion which was revealed to humanity from God Himself. It begins with the Old Testament and concludes with the New Testament and the incarnation of the Son of God. Many other religions existed, without any of them having the entire truth – the complete truth. Agnosticism existed and exists today. Agnostics claim that they do not know if God exists or not.Atheism has always existed as well. Lately, however, it is making its presence felt in such a way that one questions if atheism is simply being disrespectful or is flexing its muscles in a show of egotism?
Currently, much discussion is taking place over an advertisement that atheists have put on display everywhere which states: “Probably there is no God, so enjoy your life.” By saying “probably”, what do the atheists mean? It reveals that they are not sure if God exists or not and, therefore, they should be placed in the category of the agnostics. They remind us of a certain famous singer who declared that he is an atheist and doesn’t believe in God, but yet he went ahead and baptized his own children. When they asked him, ‘since you’re an atheist, why did you baptize your children?’ he answered, What if there is a God?” Doesn’t this say it all?
Atheism is not only disrespectful, but the height of arrogance and egotism. If God does not exist, then let the atheists explain to us how the universe was created and how it continues to exist. Let them explain to us who created it. Let them explain to us its beginnings.
Of course, with this disrespect and this egotism of the atheists, they want to dethrone God and place themselves upon His throne. In essence, the atheist worships himself as god and wants all others to worship him as god. Of course, this is truly laughable and a sad joke.
God gave freedom to man. Freedom is the defining character of the perfection of man: of man who was “created very good”. Therefore, even atheists are free to exercise their God-given freedom to say and to advertise whatever they want.
The greater importance is not what atheists and atheism does. The greater importance is what faithful people do, especially Christians who have been given the entire truth from divine revelation in Jesus Christ.
Atheists will not accomplish anything if Christians live their lives in harmony to the teachings of Christ – when Christians are true Christians, every moment of their life. Christians are called to be inspired by and practice missionary zeal, preaching the Crucified and Resurrected Christ always and everywhere. We are called to teach and preach Christ who came to us by being born as man by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary. He came in order to be crucified and by His resurrection to save us in granting us eternal life. He is the One who will come again to judge the living and the dead. Let us all be sure that when Christ comes again at His Second Coming, He will judge everyone – along with the atheists – regardless if they believe this or not.
It is our duty to live according to Christ and to pray even for the atheists.
