This year the Hellenic Federation of South Africa commemorated the 202 years since the revolution in 1821 declaring Greeces independence from the Ottoman Empire.

A day filled with members from all the Hellenic communities and Societies of South Africa and the students and educators of SAHETI.

Not only was it a day to commemorate the Greek independence but a day where everyone came together after 3 years of celebrations being done online or on smaller scale due to Covid.

On the 19th of March the field was covered in the beautiful colours of the Greek, Cypriot and South African flags along with the unique outfits of the Evzones and the dance groups from SAHETI and the Mary Vasiliou group whilst at the same time music from the SAHETI choir and the bouzouki band echoed through the stands reminding us of the heroic actions of our ancestors.

The delegates that addressed reminded us of the patriotism that fills our hearts and what it means to be a Greek and above all a Hellene.

The school grounds were filled with delicious food stalls, drinks and ample entertainment for the families.

A well organized event that truly reflected the Hellenic spirit.

Φέτος η Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Νοτίου Αφρικής τίμησε τη μνήμη των 202 χρόνων από την Επανάσταση του 1821 που ανακήρυξε την ανεξαρτησία της Ελλάδας από την Οθωμανική Αυτοκρατορία.

Μια μέρα γεμάτη με τα μέλη από όλες τις Ελληνικές Κοινότητες και Σωματεία  της Νοτίου Αφρικής και τους μαθητές και τους εκπαιδευτικούς της Σχολής ΣΑΧΕΤΙ.

Δεν ήταν μόνο μια ημέρα για τον εορτασμό της Ελληνικής Ανεξαρτησίας, αλλά μια μέρα όπου συγκεντρώθηκαν όλοι μετά από 3 χρόνια εορτασμών που  γινόταν  διαδικτυακά ή σε μικρότερη κλίμακα λόγω του Covid.

Στις 19 Μαρτίου το γήπεδο στη Σχολή ΣΑΧΕΤΙ καλύφθηκε με τα όμορφα χρώματα της ελληνικής, κυπριακής και νοτιοαφρικανικής σημαίας μαζί με τις μοναδικές στολές των Ευζώνων και των χορευτικών συγκροτημάτων από το σχολείο και το συγκρότημα της Μαίρης Βασιλείου ενώ ταυτόχρονα μουσική από την χορωδία της Σχολής ΣΑΧΕΤΙ  και το συγκρότημα των μπουζουκιών αντηχούσαν στις κερκίδες θυμίζοντας τις ηρωικές πράξεις των προγόνων μας.

Οι παρευρισκόμενοι  που απευθύνθηκαν χαιρετισμούς  μας υπενθύμισαν τον πατριωτισμό που γεμίζει τις καρδιές μας και τι σημαίνει να είσαι Έλληνας.

Ο χώρος του σχολείου ήταν γεμάτος με  πάγκους με  νόστιμο φαγητό, ποτά και άφθονη διασκέδαση για τις οικογένειες.

Μια καλά οργανωμένη εκδήλωση που αντανακλούσε πραγματικά το ελληνικό πνεύμα!
