Η ηλιακή καταιγίδα είναι αποτέλεσμα μιας ηλιακής έκλαμψης που συνέβη την Τρίτη, ο οποία προκάλεσε μια μαζική εκτίναξη φορτισμένων σωματιδίων στο διάστημα.
Όταν φτάσουν στη Γη, τα φορτισμένα σωματίδια θα κινούνται με ταχύτητα 6,4 εκατομμυρίων χιλιομέτρων την ώρα.
