A conservator-restorer is a professional responsible for the preservation of artistic and cultural artifacts, also known as cultural heritage.
Conservators possess the expertise to preserve cultural heritage in a way that retains the integrity of the object, building or site, including its historical significance, context and aesthetic or visual aspects.

There are two heptathlons—the men’s and the women’s heptathlon—composed of different events. The men’s heptathlon is older and is held indoors, while the women’s is held outdoors and was introduced in the 1980s, first appearing in the Olympics in 1984.
Exploring the practices and materials used in ancient polychromy, this exhibition highlights cutting-edge scientific methods used to identify ancient color and examines how color helped convey meaning in antiquity, and how ancient polychromy has been viewed and understood in later periods.
Polychromy is a significant area of study for The Met, and the Museum has a long history of investigating, preserving, and presenting manifestations of original color on ancient statuary.

Pilgrimage to the Isle of Cythera is a painting by French painter Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684-1721). He submitted this work to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture as his reception piece in 1717.
The painting is now in the Louvre in Paris.
In the ancient world, Cythera, one of the Greek islands, was thought to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love.
The Embarkation for Cythera (“L’embarquement pour Cythère”) is an embellished repetition of Watteau’s earlier painting, and demonstrates the frivolity and sensuousness of Rococo painting. (c. 1718-19, Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin)

The relatively small (75 cm high) limestone Cretan sculpture called the Lady of Auxerre at the Louvre Museum in Paris depicts an archaic Greek goddess of c. 650 – 625 BC. It is a Kore (“maiden”), perhaps a votary rather than the maiden goddess Persephone herself, for her right hand touches her solar plexus and her left remains stiffly at her side.
It is also possible that the Kore is a depiction of a deceased individual, possibly in a position of prayer.
A Louvre curator found the sculpture in a storage vault in the Museum of Auxerre, a city east of Paris, in 1907.
Excavations in the 1990s by Nikolaos Stampolidis in Crete have helped establish more precisely a date and place of origin for the Lady of Auxerre, in the region of Eleutherna and Gortyna, with the recovery from gravesites of very similar carved ivory faces and other objects.

A purely melodic instrument of the electronic family typically played by moving the right hand between two projecting electrodes with the left hand controlling dynamics and articulation.
It is named after its inventor, Leon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928.
“Over the Rainbow” is a ballad by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Yip Harburg. It was written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, in which it was sung by actress Judy Garland.
The sound of the instrument is often associated with eerie situations.
In the song, Joan Baez recounts an out-of-the-blue phone call from Bob Dylan, which sends her a decade back in time, to a “crummy” hotel in Greenwich Village (a neighbourhood in New York City) in about 1964 or 1965.
She recalls giving him a pair of cufflinks, and surmises that memories bring “diamonds and rust”.
The technique employed by Bob Dylan to write the song was to construct the verses as a series of “lists” of the attributes of the eponymous Sad-Eyed Lady.
These “lists” are complemented by a sequence of rhetorical questions about the Lady which are never answered within the song.
The lyrics are glorious. The repeated long vowels give it a sonorous, romantic sound. The biblical images of lowlands, prophets, and the offering of gifts to a god-like creature give the song a hymnal quality.
The song was written about Dylan’s first wife, Sara Lownds.

The Flame Trees of Thika is a British television serial of seven 50-minute episodes made by Euston Films for Thames Television in 1981. It was adapted by John Hawkesworth from the 1959 book of the same title by Elspeth Huxley, and is set in and around the town of Thika in Kenya‘s Central Province. The story deals with the lives of British settlers in this part of East Africa in 1913, when the country was a British colony, up to the start of World War One.
The series stars Hayley Mills (in her first starring role after a six-year performing hiatus), Holly Aird, David Robb and Ben Cross.
Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet, (2 June 1857 – 23 February 1934) was an English composer, many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire.
Although Elgar is often regarded as a typically English composer, most of his musical influences were not from England but from continental Europe.
He felt himself to be an outsider, not only musically, but socially. In musical circles dominated by academics, he was a self-taught composer.
Elgar has been described as the first composer to take the gramophone seriously. Between 1914 and 1925, he conducted a series of acoustic recordings of his works.
