Diogenes ( the Cynic philosopher , 410-323 BC )
Diogenes “the Cynic ” was an ancient Greek philosopher, born in Sinope in Pontus about 412 BC. He came to Athens when he was very young and became a disciple of Antisthenes . Many say that he died in 323 BC in Corinth the day that Alexander the Great died in Babylon . He is considered the foremost representative of cynical philosophy . He used humor as a means for the teachings . He believed that the happiness of man lies not in physical life and that only through self-sufficiency , frugality , self-awareness and exercise one can obtain it .
Tradition says he was residing a jar and walked around the streets all day, with a lantern . When asked what he needed the light in daytime for , he used to reply ” I am looking for honest people .”
