Cooperative learning and assessment

From the 15th until the 26th February 2017 the etwinning L.E. Cooperative learning and assessment, organized by Rosa Gaspar took place.

eTwinning is an opportunity for the promotion of cooperative learning, projecting and implementing of a cooperative network in the classroom.

In this L.E. we used collaborative spaces to interact with others and contribute for a deeper, meaningful of more effective articulation of cooperative learning.

The aim was to present and share ideas, strategies, tools and teaching techniques, which would motivate and empower pupils’ involvement both.

Learning styles

The goal was  to reach all our pupils and help them to use their full potential, by adapting the activities to their own skills and strengths.

We had the opportunity to use a lot of tools!

We used Chatroll to give our opinion and Dotstorming to add an idea or an image to illustrate your way of thinking about a subject.

On https://www.twiddla.com/LE2017 we had fun making a collaborative drawing

With Lino.it we expressed our opinions on collaboration: Building cooperative activities needs careful organization and design so that all members feel equal. Also we need to be flexible and not to impose on others. There should also be ground rules that participants have to follow and respect.” was my comment on lino.it.

Creativity in action

Today in class we invited Evangelos Vlachakis, Director of photography-Lighting cameraman at KINOglaz-pro.

The children had the opportunity  to make their own production with their hand painted film. Mr Vlachakis talked to them about the film “A Colour Box” in  1935. Lye’s first “direct” (camera-less) animation combined popular Cuban dance music with hand-painted abstract designs.

The students had the opportunity to talk about abstract art, painting, motion capture and its visualization, physics and electricity, and to create their own collaborative frame by frame film …

3Time flew quickly. The children worked happily without  thinking about the break they “missed” and the classroom was full of smiles of satisfaction, creativity, cooperation and joy!        What a day!!!

Summer School: Beyond the Refugee Crisis – Studying in Europe

This summer I took part in a remarkable event, a summer school for refugees living in Greece.

1η μέρα

The summer school “Beyond the Refugee Crisis – Studying in Europe” was held in Olympia on 18-28 August and was a unique opportunity for Greek university students and young refugees to come together. The initiative was supported by Sia Anagnostopoulou, Greek Deputy Minister for Education, in partnership with the European Council and with the support of the Faculty of Philosophy of Athens University, http://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/ST-9047-2016-INIT/en/pdf .

1

The location of the summer school made a symbolic point about the importance of peace. The summer school took place in Olympia, where the Olympic Games were held in ancient times and for which any ongoing wars were halted. Even the dates of the event coincided with this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where for the first time asylum-seekers and refugees were represented by a team of refugee Olympic athletes.

The courses, which were held at the International Olympic Academy, were attended by 29 students, aged between 18 and 30, from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Mali and Greece.

12

The courses were led by tutors sent by the European Council, who held sessions on human rights and citizenship, and by lecturers from Greek universities, who volunteered their services to hold courses on the Greek and English languages, European history and culture and, in honour of the venue, even sports lessons.

We did three sessions in English and had the chance to talk about themselves, their studies and their ambitions and dreams.

Art in Us, Art in the hands of the children

Copy of Family Rules Collage Template

The Art in Us project encouraged pupils from the third grade of the 8th Primary School to use forms of art in a dynamic, original and imaginative way. Music, dance, singing and painting are the mediators that enabled the young students to express their desire to meet, collaborate and co-create with peer students. The art and original creations of students promote the interaction between European students, enrich their knowledge and contribute to the intercultural dimension of school. The program activities were used as a tool in order to enrich the lessons, the subjects and work plans implemented at school this school year, to acquaint young students with technology, to develop their social and emotional skills and provide experiential learning conditions in an authentic context.

The newsletter promotes the objectives and activities of eTwinning, provides a platform for writers in the eTwinning community and beyond, offers an open forum for eTwinning teachers to share their opinions, encourages professional development, keep them up-to-date, helps build feelings of collegiality and sustains professional motivation.

I Feel, Therefore I Am

«Educating the Heart and Mind » SirKenRobinson

BeFunky Collage

My amazing 5th graders inspired and created this picture

If you watch Sir Ken Robinson’s speech during  the Dalai Lama Center’s Educating the Heart Series you will be amazed  at the astounding truth of the necessity to educate both the heart and the mind.

Sir Ken Robinson urges us to reconsider the values and assumptions of the ideology of our educational system – things that we take for granted and we don’t think about so much but which can calibrate our actions!

Every school should be different and great, built on diversity, not conformity and standardization. Education should be about connecting ourselves with ourselves and with each other,  empathy, intuition and mutuality.

Education is personal, and needs coordination between teachers and students, negotiated programs, collaboration, group work and mutual support. The Arts should be back into education and we should get children to focus in on themselves: Make the alternative into the main stream

«Human beings and schools are organisms not mechanisms and if you create certain cultures and to pull away  people flourish and in other cultures people tend to feel demeaned»  So let’s o look at the nature of the culture of the school, the vibrancy of the school because we are all unique but together we can create unique patterns and forms of behaviour which we can change.
