Τα Μπαμπούγερα είναι ένα παραδοσιακό δρώμενο που παρουσιάζεται στους δρόμους και την κεντρική πλατεία του Βαμβακόφυτου Σερρών, με το οποίο αλληλογραφούμε. Λάβαμε σήμερα τις υπέροχες ζωγραφιές των παιδιών!


Η λέξη είναι σύνθετη: μπάμπω (γιαγιά) και γέρος.
Νωρίς το πρωί της Κυριακής της Αποκριάς, οι μπαμπούγεροι συγκεντρώνονται σε ένα παλιό σπίτι ή σε μια αποθήκη και μεταμφιέζονται όλοι μαζί. Όταν ετοιμαστούν, αρχικά βγαίνουν οι ταπουζάρηδες, τα κυρίαρχα πρόσωπα του εθίμου, φορώντας ζωόμορφες μάσκες με κέρατα και καλυμμένοι με δέρματα αιγοπροβάτων. Στη μέση τους έχουν κρεμάσει μεγάλα κουδούνια, για να ξυπνήσουν με τον ήχο τους τη φύση από τον χειμωνιάτικο λήθαργο. Στα χέρια τους κρατούν το ταπούς (τόπι). Χτυπώντας με δύναμη το ταπούς στο έδαφος —και ιδιαίτερα σε στάσιμα νερά— προκαλούν δέος. Με ένα σακίδιο στάχτης πασπαλίζουν τον κόσμο για να ξορκίσουν το κακό.

Οι ταπουζάρηδες προστατεύουν τα μπαμπούγερα και προφυλάσσουν τη νύφη μην τυχόν την κλέψει κάποιος επίδοξος απαγωγέας από τους θεατές.
Έτσι, λοιπόν, είχαμε και έχουμε πάλι: Τον παππού και τη μπάμπω, το γαμπρό και τη νύφη, αλλά και τους υπόλοιπους, που είναι μεταφιεσμένοι με ρούχα μιας άλλης εποχής. Φιγούρες από τα παλιά, όπως ο φωτογράφος, ο αρκουδιάρης, ο αστυνομικός, ο δάσκαλος, ο γιατρός, η νοσοκόμα, ο αυγουλάς, ο γανωτής κλπ. Σατιρίζουν επαγγέλματα, άτομα και καταστάσεις που είχαν κάποτε σχέση με την καθημερινή ζωή.


Η πομπή κατηφορίζει τα δρομάκια του χωριού υπό τους εκκωφαντικούς ήχους των κουδουνιών και των ζουρνάδων, τις φωνές των καρναβαλιστών και τα πειράγματα των ταπουζάρηδων στο συγκεντρωμένο πλήθος. Στην πλατεία, όπου και στήνεται μεγάλο γλέντι γύρω από ένα αυτοσχέδιο τσαντίρι, οι μπαμπούγεροι αποκαλύπτουν τα πρόσωπά τους για να ξαποστάσουν. Αποχωρούν αποκαμωμένοι. Θα τηγανίσουν τα αυγά που συγκέντρωσαν και θα ξεγελάσουν την πείνα τους καταβροχθίζοντας μια μεγαλοπρεπή ομελέτα!

Μάσκες του Συλλόγου εκτίθενται στο Λαογραφικό Μουσείο του Γεωργίου Μελίκη. Στεγάζεται στο παλιό δημοτικό σχολείο, κτίσμα του 1931, που ανακαινίστηκε από την Ιερά Μητρόπολη Σιδηροκάστρου.

Olivia: She says she loves learning about nature and animals. Her favorite animal is the loggerhead sea turtle, but she’s sad because it’s endangered.
Brian: That’s really thoughtful of her. What else does she do for the environment?
Olivia: She’s into recycling. She gives her old books for recycling. And get this, when she grows up, she wants to volunteer for environmental organizations like WWF or Greenpeace!
Brian: Wow, Eva sounds like a superhero for the planet!
Olivia: Right! She’s pretty inspiring. We should hang out with her sometime.

William Shakespeare was born in 1564
in Stratford-upon-Avon, in England.
His father, John, was a glove-maker.
His mother, Mary, was a farmer’s daughter.
He had two older sisters, two younger sisters and three younger brothers.
William probably studied Latin, Greek and history, and left
school when he was 14 or 15.
Three years later he married Anne Hathaway.
They had a daughter called Susanna
and twins named Judith and Hamnet.
Sometime before 1590 he left Stratford
and went to London, the capital city of England.
London’s first theatre opened in 1576.
Shakespeare worked in London as an actor and
then started writing plays too.
In 1593 the plague, a terrible disease, killed thousands
of people and theatres were closed. During this time William started to write poems
instead of plays. His short poems are called sonnets.
Shakespeare helped build a new theatre called The Globe.
It opened in 1599. It was round and had space for 3,000 people.
At The Globe some people stood in front of the
stage and others had seats.
The audience shouted, clapped, booed and laughed while
they watched plays.
Musicians created special noises to make the plays more exciting
and they had a cannon to make big bangs!
No women acted in Shakespeare’s time:
men and boys played all the parts.
Shakespeare wrote comedies with happy endings,
like A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
He wrote tragedies which had sad endings, like Romeo and Juliet.
His history plays are about kings and queens, like Henry V.
Shakespeare wrote 38 plays, maybe more. He
loved language and invented new words and expressions that we still use today.
William became rich and famous. He had houses in London and in Stratford. He died
when he was 52 on 23 April 1616.
His plays and poetry were very popular 400 years
ago and they are still popular today. People all over the world love his work because
he wrote wonderful stories about very interesting people.

Nick: Oh, yes! When I’m on duty, I wear a special blue uniform. It’s not just any uniform; it’s designed to help me do my job better and keep me safe. I also wear a dark blue hat that has a badge on it, which shows people that I’m a real police officer.
Reporter: That’s awesome! So, Nick, do you enjoy being a policeman?
Nick: Absolutely! Being a policeman is more than just a job to me. It’s a chance to make a positive difference in my community. I love knowing that I’m helping people and making our city a better place to live. Tommy: That’s crazy! And he did it in just over a minute! What’s he up to nowadays?
Sally: He doesn’t do strongman stuff anymore. Instead, he runs a company that plans exciting events in Sydney.
Tommy: Cool! Speaking of big stuff, have you seen the Istana Nurul Iman, the biggest palace ever?
Sally: Oh yeah, it’s like a giant castle! The Sultan of Brunei lives there with 1,788 rooms and 257 bathrooms!

Tommy: Imagine having a home that big! Hey, did you hear about John Evans balancing that super heavy car on his head? 
Sally: Yeah, I did! He’s so strong! He balanced a car that’s as heavy as 4 big bears on his head for 33 seconds!
Tommy: That’s crazy! And he’s a giant himself, standing at 2 metres tall!
Sally: Totally! Oh, and have you heard about the King Cobra, the longest and most dangerous snake?
Tommy: Yeah, it’s super scary! It can grow longer than a school bus and its poison can take down an elephant or even twenty people!
Sally: Yikes! And it swallows its prey whole, like a super hungry monster!
Tommy: That’s terrifying! I’m glad we haven’t got any King Cobras around here!
Sally: Me, too! Let’s stick to talking about cool stuff like Yao and David’s amazing feats!
