Together is Better

In May Irene Pateraki organized a very successful and inspiring Learning Event called  “LE: Collaborative Learning in eTwinning: Alone we can do so little; Together we can do so much” .

In this Learning Event we discovered what collaboration is about by collaborating with each other as students and as teachers.

We worked in groups. My group was No4 and it R O C K E D!

The Learning Event was very well organized and all the activities well scheduled.

togetherThe twinspace was organized in such a way that could facilitate our coolaboration.

In Exploration Area, we discovered what collaborative learning is about, how important it is to integrate it in our teaching practices and  how it can enrich our eTwinning projects.

In Collaboration Area, we worked  as students and collaborated in Classrooms to accomplish a number of activities. Collaborative learning  was designed in all the stages of a project: We introduced ourselves,  brainstormed, implemented activities and evaluated our work.

In the Implementation Area we planned  our own collaborative lesson plan,

The lesson plan  included:

-Title

-Subjects involved

-Age of students

-Tools that you will use

-Description of the lesson plan

My lesson plan was called   Let’s retell the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and I actually implemented it with my 1st graders at the 1st Primary School of Pyrgos in cooperation with a French school we worked together this year.

together3I was very lucky to work with wonderful colleagues !

We did a lot of skype meetings, exchanged emails, messages on favcebook. We communicated and collaboratated!!!!!

3LE, 20-5-2016

We even produced a song!!!

The chats on the twitter were some of the numerous enjoyable moments of the course!

The results were so rewarding! It seemed like a journey to all of us!

Irene Pateraki collected  all the lesson plans that were most voted and made an ebook

Coping with a new course at the end of the school year seemed rather difficult…Thanks to the moderators and colleagues, their enthusiasm, their sharing of knowledge and their support, it was an enjoyable and creative journey!

It raised our awareness of pedagogical issues, encouraged us to cooperate and share our knowledge and provided an amazing learning experience!

It is about personalizing education

“Cloths of Heaven”, by W.B. Yeats

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

Sir Ken Robinson believes fundamentally that people make very poor use of their talents. Very few people have sense of their true talents or if they have any. He advocates that people endure their life rather than enjoy it. There are other people who wouldn’t imagine their life  otherwise. It isn’t what they do , it is who they are! Their job speaks to their most authentic self.

Life, he says, is not linear but organic.”We create our lives symbiotically as we explore our talents in relation to the circumstances they helped to create for us. Human communities depend upon a diversity of talent. People have very different aptitudes. It is what excites our spirit and our energy.”

We have to go from what is essentially an industrial model of education based on linearity and conformity to a model where we can create the conditions under which they will begin to flourish.

PERSONALIZE EDUCATION TO PEOPLE YOU ARE ACTUALLY TEACHING!

Bring on the Learning Revolution!

The Ecological Planet

In April we discussed with my 6th graders about how we would like our planet to be.

Planet Diversity, our eTwinning project gave us the opportunity to think about life on another planet and then we thought why not make the Earth, our Earth, this ideal planet .

The recycling project we are ding this year gave us the inspiration and so …

the Ecological Planet was born!

Supporting children with difficulties in reading and writing

Dyslexia

I recently completed a very interesting course, organized by Coursera : Supporting children with difficulties in reading and writing, https://www.coursera.org/learn/dyslexia-difficulties

This course is for teachers to learn why some children have so much difficulty with reading and writing, often called ‘dyslexia’, and to learn more about best practice in teaching literacy to all in light of recent scientific discoveries.

An excellent course for beginners and specialists alike. The information preseted in  this course is up to date, practical and very informative.  The course is challenging but it is worth it as we can learn a lot!

I highly recommend it for anyone interested in specialist work or supporting students.
