The Climate Action Project

The Climate Action project is a project founded by Koen Timmers. In october 2017, 250 schools over 69 countries participated in the Climate Action project. This project is supported by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Jane Goodall Foundation, the 2 directors of Greenpeace, Unesco, Microsoft Education, scientists and other public figures.
Students over 6 continents focussed on Climate Change during 4 weeks.

You can see the amazing work hundreds of teachers and thousands of pupils did on the site at https://www.climate-action.info/

We broke down our classroom walls and connected students over 60 countries working on a project. It was a student-centered project which engaged the learners to explore an issue of vital significance.

The students did the research, brainstorming and discussion. They shared their findings via weekly videos or presentations. We, the teachers, did not give away any knowledge. Teachers pointed their students in the right direction and made sure the students verified their sources. All students learned in very different ways, collaborative, by expressing and creating, by doing research, by discussing, by connecting to experts on social media, and had very different outcomes. This project covered several subjects: Science, Math, History, Biology, Literature, and helped ss learn to use certain tools without being instructed how to use them.

My class had the chance to work on this project and cooperate with a school in Ireland but my students explored the work done by many different schools all over the world. You can see our submissions at https://www.climate-action.info/users/kouzouli

Thank you, Koen Timmers, for inspiring us!
