It is about personalizing education

“Cloths of Heaven”, by W.B. Yeats

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

Sir Ken Robinson believes fundamentally that people make very poor use of their talents. Very few people have sense of their true talents or if they have any. He advocates that people endure their life rather than enjoy it. There are other people who wouldn’t imagine their life  otherwise. It isn’t what they do , it is who they are! Their job speaks to their most authentic self.

Life, he says, is not linear but organic.”We create our lives symbiotically as we explore our talents in relation to the circumstances they helped to create for us. Human communities depend upon a diversity of talent. People have very different aptitudes. It is what excites our spirit and our energy.”

We have to go from what is essentially an industrial model of education based on linearity and conformity to a model where we can create the conditions under which they will begin to flourish.
