The Association „Testvérvárosok Baráti Egyesülete” is situated in Jászberény, a region of central Hungary called Jászság. The town is located about 70 km from Budapest, the capital of Hungary, on the Zagyva river and it has the the highest number of Roma inhabitants of Hungary. The Association, which is a nonprofit organisation, was established in 2006 with the purpose to melt the twin cities of Jászberény into one organisation. It has contributed to maintain the several decades of friendship among the nine twin towns through different activities thus strengthening awareness of active European citizenship, solidarity, tolerance and social inclusion.
According to these principles, expanding the relationships between NGOs in Jászberény and the twin cities, supporting the development of new civil society contacts, facilitating establishment of relationships between entrepreneurs of twin towns have
been of significant importance. The Association has members from various specialisations such as teachers, doctors, social assistants, psychologists, school mediators, students, with more than 100 members and 170 volunteers. Connected to different educational institutions, entrepreneurs, sports organisations, the Association „Testvérvárosok Baráti Egyesülete” is supporting all its members, emphasizing mutual interest, multiculturalism and interculturality. On the basis of a broad network „Testvérvárosok Baráti Egyesülete” is able to organize training courses, meetings, workshops, traineeships for students in different professional areas, including the traditional values through folk dance or riding schools both on national and international level on the highest niveau.
Our areas of activity include:
• Culture, arts, recreation: media and communication, leisure, tourism and sports;
• Social and economic development for the benefit of youth: local community development, infrastructure and social development, tackling social difficulties or young people and their
families, facilitating youth access to housing, proper employment, training, medical and social care;
• Protecting human rights and promoting civic interests for all categories: individual rights, civic participation and education, promoting ethnic solidarity and cultural traditions, promoting
rights of minorities, promoting multiculturalism and diversity, medical, social and psychological assistance for children, youth and their families, support for young people who are
victims of abuses of any kind;
• Philanthropy and volunteering; supporting actions of volunteering among people, encouraging humanitarian activities, fundraisings for positive social causes.
Our Vision – TEBA is dedicated to making a positive contribution to Rhodes, in our vision we:
contribute to the cultural and intellectual climate in Jászberény;
contribute to a better understanding of the unique multicultural heritage of Hungary and Jászberény in particular and to help preserve this for future generations;
contribute to a better cultural understanding and appreciation between people of different backgrounds;
contribute to the establishment and promotion of Hungary as a recognised first-class cultural destination;
