Today has been theatre day for our pupils in Years 3 to 6.
We watched Little Women, a timeless novel of classic literature brought to life on stage at the Alambra Theatre, adapted and directed by Athena Chatziathanassiou.
A cast of seven talented actors; period costumes and inventive stage design; a striking musical backdrop featuring original compositions and contemporary arrangements; expressive movement, choreography, and atmospheric lighting—these were just some of the elements that fascinated us.
Louisa May Alcott’s novel was written in 1868, yet it feels as though it could have been written today.
A journey towards adulthood, a voyage of self-discovery, a story of love and solidarity—set against the backdrop of the American Civil War—unfolded through the lives of the four March sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy.
“What will you be when you grow up?” That ever-important question for every child. As if being a child is not being someone, but simply a stage before one becomes someone. Quite a burden for such “small” shoulders to bear!
The young ladies and gentlemen of the story make their choices. They decide who they will be, despite the obstacles, and embark on their own paths to adulthood—with mistakes that turn into determination and disappointments that turn into joy.
