I once had two star students, Alex Perfectionist and Charlie Goodenough. They were practising describing activities in the past, present, and future.
Alex confidently said, “Yesterday, I studied English. Today, I am studying English. Tomorrow, I am going to study English!”
Charlie, who was more laid-back, said, “Yesterday, I read an English comic. Today, I’m watching an English film. Tomorrow, I’ll probably sleep in!”
Alex looked horrified. “Charlie, you need to plan your studies better! How will you master tenses if you don’t practise consistently?”
Charlie grinned and said, “I’m mastering relaxation. That’s a tense too, right?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Alex, you’ll be fluent in no time. Charlie, you’re fluent in making us laugh!”
Both students learnt something that day—Alex practised grammar, and Charlie reminded us that sometimes, fun is just as important as perfection!
