Μυρτώ και Νάντια
My student Myrto Muddlepop was determined to master both British and American English. One day, she confidently said, “Yesterday, I put my jumper in the boot and went to the shops.”
Her American friend, Nadia Nuzzlecrumb, looked confused. “Wait, you put what in where? And why are you shopping for boots at the jumper store?”
Myrto laughed. “Nadia, in British English, a jumper is a sweater, the boot is the trunk of a car, and shops are stores!”
Nadia gave up. “Let me know when English starts making sense!”
