Lenten food in Kindergarten!
Yesterday was Clean Monday in Greece, so it was a feast AND a fasting day! In Kindergarten, this is the time of year when children find out about the different sorts of food, and they usually make or colour a Kyra-Sarakosti figure, with all the Lenten food pictured or incorporated in her apron.
One of the oh-so-many things you have to do in Kindergarten is be good at improvising! Working together with the Kindergarten teachers can be challenging -life happens! Here is today’s effort to keep pace with the things that they needed to teach:
For our English lesson, I drew five kinds of food to make flashcards: “Carrot”, “fish”, “potato”, “bean soup” and “calamari”, trying to use what I thought would be “easy” words. Then, we played a guessing game and a giant board game, which both proved great drilling exercises! Especially the giant board game idea was quite popular, as the children took turns to get up and move around the flashcards, saying the word at the same time. We had some contestants who finished with equal points, but every student was willing to help their classmates, and that was particularly encouraging!
