Happy April Fools’ Day!!!

Πρωταπριλιά σήμερα, και εννοείται πως το πρωί είχα ένα σκουπιδάκι / μια μύγα / σφήκα / αράχνη στα μαλλιά μου, ή μια τρύπα στο παντελόνι / παπούτσι / κάλτσα μου δεκάδες φορές! Τα παιδιά ξετρελαίνονταν να με βλέπουν να μετατρέπομαι από σοβαρή σε “ανόητη” αυτή την ημέρα, και το ίδιο και με όλους τους δασκάλους!

Σήμερα, στο μάθημα με την Γ΄ τάξη, αφιερώσαμε λίγη ώρα για να μιλήσουμε και για το έθιμο της Πρωταπριλιάς, που συναντάμε παντού στον κόσμο. Είπαμε και για την April Fish Day. Εδώ, το “feedback”, μια αθώα και παιχνιδιάρικη φάρσα εις “βάρος” του δασκάλου της τάξης, που έκανε φυσικά τον ανήξερο: “You are a fish, κύριε!!”

Γιορτάζοντας την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ποίησης 2024! Νέα εκπομπή στο Ευρωπαϊκό Σχολικό Ραδιόφωνο (European School Radio)

Μερικές φορές, το μόνο που θέλουν τα παιδιά είναι ενθάρρυνση και μια ευκαιρία να δημιουργήσουν. Έτσι, ξεπερνώντας αντικειμενικές δυσκολίες, τα παιδιά της Δ’ τάξης συνεργάστηκαν και έγραψαν όλα μαζί ένα ποίημα για την άνοιξη, με τίτλο: Spring Is My Favourite! Παράλληλα, τα κορίτσια της ΣΤ’ τάξης έγραψαν η καθεμία το δικό της ποίημα, με διαφορετική έμπνευση, και το αποτέλεσμα αποτυπώθηκε στο επεισόδιο που ακολουθεί:

Christmas activities at the Royal Patras

This year I was lucky enough to go on a school trip to the Royal Patras, a really nice place with a theatre, bar and restaurant, woth lots of space outside and with a big garden. There were lots of activities for our students there to do. Here are some:

But, above all, and with special interest for me as an English teacher, who is also responsible for the school library, there was a chance for students to get acquainted with the Alice in Wonderland world, which we will be sure to talk about and read in class. Well done, Royal Patras!

International Children’s Book Day (April 2) / Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Παιδικού Βιβλίου (2 Απριλίου)

The poster for the celebration of the International Children’s Book Day 2023 has been created by IBBY Greece, by illustrator Photini Stephanidi. Aiming at promoting books and reading, this day is often a chance for schools to organize various events in cooperation with authors and illustrators, libraries and publishing houses. This year, the message is sent by author Vangelis Iliopoulos: “I am a book. Read me.”

Η αφίσα για τον εορτασμό της Παγκόσμιας Ημέρας Παιδικού Βιβλίου 2023 έχει δημιουργηθεί από το Ελληνικό Παράρτημα του Διεθνούς Συμβουλίου για τα Βιβλία για Νέους, από τον Κύκλο του Ελληνικού Παιδικού Βιβλίου και την εικονογράφο Φωτεινή Στεφανίδη. Στοχεύοντας στην προώθηση των βιβλίων και την ανάγνωση, η συγκεκριμένη μέρα είναι μια ευκαιρία τα σχολεία να οργανώσουν διάφορες εκδηλώσεις σε συνεργασία με συγγραφείς και εικονογράφους, βιβλιοθήκες και εκδοτικούς οίκους. Φέτος, το μήνυμα στέλνει ο συγγραφέας Βαγγέλης Ηλιόπουλος:

Ode To A Stray Dog

This is an acrostic type of poem, that the 4th grade students did collectively on World Poetry Day, and they really nailed it! By the way, Boomerang is the name of the dog, he is a big black shepherd and the nurses at the nearby hospital have adopted him. There is also a school in the neighbourhood, and Boomerang likes to watch all the children go to school in the morning, while sometimes he even stands in the middle of the street, so cars stop and the little students can cross safely!

Happy Lunar New Year 2019!!!

Today I wanted to talk about the Lunar New Year to my 1st grade students; it’s a great opportunity to get them acquainted with things other than what they already are familiar with. 2019 is the Year of the Pig! I brought a couple of handouts for them, a nice colouring printable and a bookmark to make and use. The nicest part of today’s lesson, though, was the music I brought for them to listen to: The Butterfly Lovers Concerto and Moon Reflected in the Erquan.

Here is more information about the Lunar New Year, for you to use and explain a few things to your students. These are the worksheets I used today, but I’m thinking I could teach animal vocabulary for our next lesson, using the 12 zodiacal signs for the 12 months:

The funny thing about today was that we also cut the vasilopita in our school, for all the students! Happy New Year to all!
