Στην παγκόσμια δράση Students Rebuild Healing Classrooms συμμετείχε στις 11.12.2015 το 1ο ΓΕΛ Κω με αφορμή την παγκόσμια ημέρα παιδιού. Η δράση εκπονήθηκε από αρκετά τμήματα του σχολείου. Η δράση είναι απλή. Οι μαθητές φτιάχνουν pinwheels (μικρούς μύλους-φουρφούρια). Το Ίδρυμα Μπέζος στην Αμερική (The Bezos Family Foundation) δωρίζει για κάθε μύλο 2 δολάρια στο IRC (International refugee committee). Το πρώτο τμήμα έφτιαξε 46 μύλους, άρα 92 δολάρια για να βοηθήσουμε τα προσφυγόπουλα να συνεχίσουν τη μάθηση τους, μακριά από τη χώρα τους. Τα παιδιά μπορούν να αυτοσχεδιάσουν, γράφοντας μηνύματα αγάπης και αλληλεγγύης ή απλά ευχές για τις γιορτές των Χριστουγέννων. Ελπίζουμε να μας ακολουθήσουν και άλλα σχολεία σ’ αυτήν την όμορφη δράση προσφοράς, μιας και είναι πολύ διαδεδομένη σε όλον τον κόσμο, μα και στην Ελλάδα! 2017-18 Facing Difference Challenge-Self-Portraits
Students Rebuild: Year 3: #FacingDifferenceChallenge -Students participating in the Facing Difference Challenge will support three great programs in Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and the South Caucasus region. All the programs are working to help young people overcome conflict and tension related to difference and to build peace.
Every portrait made and sent to Students Rebuild, will be matched with $3—to go towards peace-building programs helping young people engage across lines of difference
Why Self-Portraits?
The self-portrait forces us to reflect on one’s identity, perspectives, and self-perception. The artistic decisions made highlight an individual’s personality, aesthetic, and how they choose to represent themselves and the world around them. This project is an exercise in both looking inward, and looking at others.

KAI WEBCAST!!
Σε συνέχεια της δράσης μας Facing Difference Challenge με τα Αυτοπορτραίτα, στις 28.02.2018, κληθήκαμε να συμμετάσχουμε σε έναν ανοιχτό διάλογο με θέμα το ρατσισμό και τις φυλετικές διακρίσεις με ακόμη δύο σχολεία στις Η.Π.Α, ένα από την Iowa και ένα από το Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Συμμετείχαμε σε μια Live μετάδοση (webcast) με θέμα τις φυλετικές διακρίσεις live στις 6.00 μ.μ στο youtube. Θα μπορούσα να μιλάω ώρες για τα οφέλη τέτοιων δράσεων, αλλά αυτό που θα πω είναι οι μαθητές που συμμετείχαν έστω και σαν παρατηρητές, βελτίωσαν τα αγγλικά τους, εξέθεσαν προσωπικές ιστορίες, εκτέθηκαν σε κοινό, κ.ά πολλά.
Λάβαμε αρκετά συγχαρητήρια μηνύματα από πολλούς, πάρα πολλούς για τους μαθητές μας, για το επίπεδό τους με πολύ εγκωμιαστικά σχόλια, τα κυριότερα από τη διεύθυνση των οργανισμών Global Nomads Group, Students Rebuild, και το Bezos Foundation. Η Διευθύντρια του Ιδρύματος Μπέζος ήταν εκθειαστική.
Students from three schools, Iowa City-Iowa, Milwaukee-Wisconsin and Kos-Greece, participated in a conversation about how they experience race and how they work to face difference in their communities.

‘Οταν δε, τους ζητήθηκε να πουν κάτι αστείο για το σχολείο τους, η απάντηση ήταν: “Το αστείο είναι πως δεν έχουμε σχολείο” (λόγω σεισμού φιλοξενούμασταν τότε σε παρακείμενο σχολείο απογευματινές ώρες) …proud of you, guys

I just watched the webcast with most of our office, and it was amazing! Thank you so much for joining last minute, for the engagement of your students, and their thoughtful responses to some really hard questions! Our whole office left the room incredibly inspired by all the students who participated.
They were great and we understood them perfectly! We even discussed how impressive it was to have this discussion as a non-native English speaker and how most of us couldn’t be that articulate in a second language.

2019-20: The Hunger Challenge (A recipe for hunger)
New project at school! Students Rebuild Hunger Challenge–a global learning opportunity that allows young people to take meaningful action on important issues.
This year, we’re learning about and responding to hunger in all its guises—malnutrition, food insecurity, “food deserts,” and more. We are making artfully crafted recipes that will generate funding for organizations addressing hunger and malnutrition around the world and across the spectrum of need, from emergency relief and feeding programs to longer-term agricultural development.
2020-21: Changemaker Challenge Honoring everyday heroes
Εν μέσω πανδημίας επιλέγουμε να βραβεύουμε καθημερινούς ήρωες, ήρωες χωρίς κάπα. Οι εργασίες άρχισαν να έρχονται κι οι μαθητές μου βραβεύουν μέλη της οικογένειάς τους, γιατρούς και νοσοκόμες, καθηγητές και μαθητές για την προσφορά τους 
Το 1ο ΓΕΛ Κω “Ιπποκράτειο” συμμετείχε στην Παγκόσμια Δράση Students Rebuild με 26 μαθητές “2021: Changemaker Challenge Honoring everyday heroes” στο πλαίσιο του μαθήματος των Αγγλικών.
Η δράση επιστεγάστηκε με μια σύνδεση με Νέα Υόρκη, Ιορδανία και Μεξικό όπου οι μαθητές μας-με τρελό ενθουσιασμό-οφείλω να πω-αντάλλαξαν απόψεις με μαθητές από την άλλη άκρη της γης, για το ποιους θεωρούν changemakers και για ποιο λόγο, σε ποιες δράσεις για καλό σκοπό έχουν συμμετάσχει στο παρελθόν και πώς μπορούν σήμερα να γίνουν η αλλαγή που θέλουν. Η κουβέντα έγινε, φυσικά, στην αγγλική γλώσσα, κι οι μαθητές μου απέδειξαν ότι έχουν φωνή και άποψη σε θέματα κοινωνικά και περιβαλλοντικά και μίλησαν με θάρρος και αυτοπεποίθηση για όλα, για τον ρατσισμό, τον σεξισμό, την ομοφοβία, την ανακύκλωση, τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα, την προστασία των ζώων κ.ά πολλά (κι όλα αυτά Μεγάλη Δευτέρα 4:00 μ.μ)
*Όλες οι δράσεις μας-θέλω να το τονίσω-γίνονται εκτός ωρών σχολικού ωραρίου και πάντα με τη συναίνεση των γονέων-αν πρόκειται για έκθεση σε media.

Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ποίησης-World Poetry dayΠαγκόσμια Ημέρα για την Εξάλειψη των Φυλετικών Διακρίσεων-International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Οι μαθητές/τριες έφτιαξαν καραβάκια και πάνω έγραψαν ποιήματα στα αγγλικά με θέμα το προσφυγικό. Φτιάξαμε ένα “installation” με τα καραβάκια, τα οποία κρεμάσαμε στη μουριά της αυλής του σχολείου μας. Επίσης οι μαθητές/τριες του Α1 έφτιαξαν δύο υπέροχα πόστερ: Στο πρώτο έγραψαν-21st March-International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination-World Poetry day και στο δεύτερο-(Hu)Man is the answer, whatever the question is (Όποια κι αν είναι η ερώτηση, άνθρωπος είναι η απάντηση-Andre Breton).
Με πρωτοβουλία της Marina Kandroudi ακούσαμε και το υπέροχο Marjan Farsad – Khooneye Ma στο οποίο έκανα ταυτόχρονη μετάφραση στα ελληνικά κι η δράση ολοκληρώθηκε με την ερώτηση της Μαρίνας “Τι είναι σπίτι?” προς όλους
Παράλληλα, με αυτά τα καραβάκια συμμετείχαμε στην παγκόσμια δράση Students Rebuild “The World Needs Challenge” στο θέμα “humanitarian aid for refugees”
