Μασσαλία
It is preferable nowadays to use the French spelling: Marseille.
“The city of 100 neighbourhoods” has long been overlooked for the same reasons that make it so great: it’s not like Paris, Lyon or Aix-en-Provence.
Founded around 600 BC by Greek settlers from Phocaea, Asia Minor, Marseille is the oldest city in France, as well as one of Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited settlements.
