eTwinning project 2022-23: Nursery Rhymes for good times!

11

Within the framework of the European eTwinning program and in collaboration with schools from France, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Romania and Greece, the 4th grade students in the English course (with English as the common language of participation) participated this year in the program – Nursery Rhymes for good times!

The founder of the project was Ms. Maria Doulgeri, English language teacher.

Nursery Rhymes, a wide range of simple poems or rhymes for children, are part of the English language tradition that are either recited as poems or sung to simple tunes. Not only can they provide fun and entertainment for children, but also support important learning processes (such as stimulating children’s speech, their sense of rhythm, accent and vocabulary, improving memory and encouraging interaction).

The main idea of this project was a cultural and linguistic exchange and interaction between children from different countries: the children heard and learned rhymes or songs from different cultures and countries, in different languages.

A series of activities took place: first there was a discussion about the rules of correct behavior on the internet (Netiquette) which led to the creation of a poster.

Then came the meeting with the partners: the children introduced themselves to the other participants and created a talking picture of themselves.

After these introductory activities, in the following two months, the children chose and presented in a unique way the 2 Nursery Rhymes of their choice and also included some information about them (for their partners).

The chosen Nursery Rhymes were: One potato, two potato(es) (counting game)

and London bridge is falling down.

Then, after a draw, the children learned and performed the foreign Nursery Rhyme they got: Head, shoulders, knees and toes.

At the end the students watched the attempts of all participants to learn a foreign Nursery Rhyme and wrote their final impressions on the program.

One thing is for sure! We had a great time and look forward to participating in an eTwinning project again!
