Σαν σήμερα

17/6: Παγκόσμια Ημέρα κατά της Ερημοποίησης και της Ξηρασίας
Η μετατροπή των εύφορων εδαφών σε έρημο, με κύριο ένοχο τον άνθρωπο, πλήττει σοβαρά πάνω 100 χώρες στον κόσμο. Προκαλεί εξάντληση των διαθέσιμων αποθεμάτων νερού, διάβρωση και κατολίσθηση των εδαφών, καθώς και πλημμύρες. 200 χώρες του κόσμου συντονίζουν της ενέργειές τους για την καταπολέμηση του φαινομένου, μέσω του ΟΗΕ. Προς την κατεύθυνση αυτή καθιερώθηκε και η 17η Ιουνίου ως Παγκόσμια Ημέρα κατά της Ερημοποιησης και της Ξηρασίας.
