International Women’s Day

As English teachers, our classrooms are about so much more than just grammar rules, vocabulary lists, and verb tenses. They are vibrant spaces where we help shape global citizens, encourage empathy, and open windows to the world.

With March 8th around the corner, I wanted to bring a topic into my primary school classroom that is both deeply meaningful and inspiring: International Women’s Day (IWD).

Why International Women’s Day in Primary English?
Teaching young learners about equality, courage, and history through a foreign language can be incredibly powerful. It allows them to absorb vocabulary while thinking about real-world themes. For this lesson, our focus isn’t just on learning new words, but on celebrating the incredible achievements of women around the world and discussing how we can all contribute to a fairer society.

To make this topic accessible, engaging, and age-appropriate for young learners, I created a brand-new interactive lesson plan using H5P on the e-me platform. The lesson plan includes:

  • A video – introduction to International Women’s Day

  • An interactive quiz (listening comprehension)

  • A on line crossword (vocabulary practice)

  • A timeline (order of events)

  • A video worksheet (grammar practice of “used to”/speaking practice/writing)

I am so excited to share it with all of you today!
