Πόσο αξιόπιστος και ακριβής είναι αυτός ο μεταφραστής;

Όλοι γνωρίζουν, ότι υπάρχει πλήθος εκφράσεων και ότι χρησιμοποιούμε πολλές λέξεις με διφορούμενη σημασία. Όταν κάποιος ακούει μια λέξη με διφορούμενη σημασία, μπορεί να μαντέψει τη σημασία της μόνο από τα συμφραζόμενα. Δυστυχώς, οι μηχανές και οι υπολογιστές δεν μπορούν να το κάνουν αυτό, προς το παρόν τουλάχιστον. Επιπλέον, ακόμα κι αν μεταφράζουν σωστά αυτές τις λέξεις, δεν έχουν τη δυνατότητα να δημιουργήσουν μια γραμματικά σωστή πρόταση. Ωστόσο, στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις, έχουμε τη δυνατότητα να καταλαβαίνουμε το μεταφρασμένο κείμενο, χάρη στην εξελιγμένη τεχνολογία.

Δημιούργησε το δικό σου προσωπικό cloud με το Nextcloud Box

Πρόκειται για ένα project μεταξύ των εταιριών Nextcloud, Western Digital Labs και Canonical, οι οποίες στην ουσία θέλουν να διαφημίσουν τα προϊόντα και τις υπηρεσίες τους μέσα από τη συγκεκριμένη συσκευή. Η Western Digital παρέχει το σκληρό δίσκο, η Canonical το λειτουργικό σύστημα και η Nextcloud την υπηρεσία προσωπικού cloud.

Το κουτί και κατ’ επέκταση η υπηρεσία, σου δίνει τη δυνατότητα να αποθηκεύσεις όλα σου τα αρχεία σε ένα δικό σου server, ο οποίος είναι προσβάσιμος από οποιοδήποτε μέρος και οποιαδήποτε συσκευή, όπως ακριβώς το Dropbox και το Google Drive. Μας επιτρέπει να συγχρονίσουμε αυτόματα ολόκληρους φακέλους από τον υπολογιστή ή το κινητό μας, ενώ ειδικά για το Android υπάρχει η επιλογή να ανeβαίνουν στο server μας, όλες οι φωτογραφίες που βγάζουμε με την κάμερα της συσκευής.

Η είσοδος γίνεται κάνοντας login με το λογαριασμό μας, ενώ μπορούμε να δημιουργήσουμε και άλλους λογαριασμούς τους οποίους θα χρησιμοποιούν οι φίλοι και οι συνεργάτες μας. Τέλος ο διαθέσιμος χώρος είναι κυριολεκτικά απεριόριστος, αφού εξαρτάται από τους σκληρούς δίσκους που θα συνδέσουμε πάνω του.

Αν και το Nextcloud είναι μια υπηρεσία την οποία μπορείς να εγκαταστήσεις σε οποιοδήποτε υπολογιστή, η ιδέα του Box είναι εξαιρετική, αφού χρησιμοποιεί έναν υπολογιστή χαμηλής κατανάλωσης, τον οποίο μπορούμε να έχουμε συνέχεια ανοιχτό.

Το Nextcloud Box αποτελείται από:

  • ένα δίσκο στις 2,5 ίντσες με μέγεθος 1TerraByte,
  • το κουτί το οποίο εκτός από το δίσκο έχει ελεύθερο χώρο για να προσθέσουμε ένα single-board computer της επιλογής μας, όπως το Raspberry Pi ή το ODROID και
  • μία microSD κάρτα στα 4GB με προεγκατεστημένο το Ubuntu Core, ένα πανάλαφρο λειτουργικό σύστημα το οποίο έχει δημιουργηθεί ειδικά για τέτοιες περιπτώσεις, αλλά και το Nextcloud το οποίο μας παρέχει τη συγκεκριμένη υπηρεσία.

This week Collabora has shown an early testing version of the cloud version of LibreOffice integrated with an Owncloud instance. To me and others, this marks a significant milestone in the story of LibreOffice and the Document Foundation. I’m aware that the code is not stabilized and there’s much work left to do, but by and large, LibreOffice now has its own cloud version. The repercussions of this won’t be immediately clear, in that they will likely really start when the first stable version is released along with a proper documentation so that anyone who has to administer 15 desktops can easily install and run it.

What's Bugging Online Storage Users? It's Not Always What You Think

Security Yes? Security No?

Security topped the list of most commonly asked questions about Dropbox, coming in at 40% of issues raised. Storage limits came in at number two, with file syncing was the number three concern on the list.

Security was not quite as big an issue for Box users, tied for first place with upload issues, each accounting for 25% of issues reported. Backup file questions ranked third.

Perhaps most striking, though, was the fast that for iCloud and Google Driveusers, security wasn’t a ranked issue at all. The problems listed all deal with application-specific issues.

For Google Drive help-seekers, missing folders was the top-reported problem, at 30% of questions. Syncing files and Google Doc auto-conversion were the second- and third-ranked questions, respectively.

Syncing information figured more prominently for users of Apple’s iCloud, with the number two and three ranked questions centering around syncing with non-Apple devices and syncing between devices in general. The biggest reported question was very application-specific: 35% of users had questions about Apple’s Mountain Lion OS X operating system update and its affect on iCloud. New SkyDrive recycle bin available today and Excel surveys coming soon!

Recycle bin

SkyDrive already keeps previous versions of your Office documents automatically. But students, in particular, have asked for a way to recover any file—even those deleted by accident, by someone else, during a group project. So, we’ve added a recycle bin to SkyDrive.

Items in the recycle bin do not count against your SkyDrive storage limit. We save all items you delete in the recycle bin for at least 3 days. If the content in your recycle bin gets large enough to exceed 10% of your storage limit (which will be pretty rare), we’ll start to delete the oldest content (after it’s been there 3 days), and will permanently remove items from the recycle bin after they have been there for 30 days (and not restored).

Right now, the recycle bin feature is available from SkyDrive.com, and over time we expect the recycle bin experience to make its way to other SkyDrive experiences too.

Excel surveys

We’re also putting the final touches on adding Excel surveys to SkyDrive. Like the recycle bin, this has been a top request from students in particular, as they’re great for getting suggestions for a group project or party, collecting feedback or research results, running a competition, and much more. And unlike competing services, you can easily use the power of Excel Web App, Excel for Windows, or Excel for Mac to sort, analyze, or chart the results of your survey.

Υψηλά ποσοστά χρήσης για το «υπολογιστικό νέφος» στην Ελλάδα

Έναν από τους ταχύτερα αναπτυσσόμενους κλάδους της παγκόσμιας αγοράς τεχνολογίας αποτελεί το «cloud computing», ωστόσο λιγότεροι από το 1/4 των Ευρωπαίων χρηστών υπολογιστών αναφέρουν ότι έχουν πρόσβαση στις υπηρεσίες του.

Όπως προέκυψε από τα αποτελέσματα έρευνας, που πραγματοποιήθηκε από την Ipsos Public Affairs για τη BSA, με τη συμμετοχή σχεδόν 4.000 χρηστών υπολογιστών σε εννέα χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Αυστρία, Βέλγιο, Γαλλία, Γερμανία, Ελλάδα, Ουγγαρία, Πολωνία, Ρουμανία, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο), μόλις το 24% των συμμετεχόντων χρησιμοποιούν εφαρμογές «cloud» (όπως online υπηρεσίες email ή online επεξεργασία κειμένων) σε σύγκριση με 34% των χρηστών σε διεθνές επίπεδο.

InstallFree released its first virtual office suite, Nexus, a completely browser-based service to gain access to full-fledged versions of Microsoft Office applications. Although the service sounds fantastic in theory, I can’t recommend it unconditionally over other online office solutions.
