Dictamnus or Erontas, Cretan herbal
(Origanum Dictamnus)
It grows only in Crete, an endemic plant of the island. It blooms in early summer. Its taste has a strong element of oregano and thyme, with spicy and slightly bitter notes.
Therapeutic properties: It helps relieve cough, mild digestive disorders, and is also used topically to treat minor skin inflammations and bruises.
Since antiquity, Cretans have known the unique properties of dittany (Diktamo). Mythical stories and ancient physicians, such as Hippocrates, attributed remarkable healing powers to dittany. According to legend, when wild goats of Crete were wounded by arrows, they would seek out this herb to heal their wounds.
