Nowadays, technology has entered in almost all areas of life. Within the last ten years, technology has also created many changes in the field of education. However, technology in schools, obviously has both advantages and certain disadvantages.

First and foremost, technology in schools, has given the opportunity to students to become creative in all their lessons, whether it is Maths, History or Art. Gone are the days, when students had only one book and one teacher to give them subjective opinions. Via computers, students can work in teams and interact with each other exchanging opinions and making the lessons lively and more enjoyable. Furthermore, students today develop their critical thinking, while searching through different sites to do their projects and homework. At the same time, they can keep up with the rate of new information and they do not need to rely on books which can be outdated.

On the other hand, technology can prove to have a negative influence on students and generally on they adult life. Basically, student depend so much on computers that they have learnt not to use their own mind, expecting all the information to be given to them at the touch of a button. In addition, teacher have lost their traditional roles, as guides, friends, psychologists and educators and have become simply people who convey knowledge. Technology has “stolen” their original role, since students depend more on machines to gain knowledge than on teachers.

To sum up, none can deny that computers make our student years more enjoyable and our lessons less boring by broadening our horizons. However we must never forget how important the human element in education is.
