Participation of Senior High School(General Lyceum) of Intercultural Education of Eastern Thessaloniki in the national programme “Schools for all”
During the school year 2022-2023, Senior High School (General Lyceum) of Intercultural Education of Eastern Thessaloniki participated in the national programme “Schools for all – Inclusion of refugee children in Greek Schools”, which aims at strengthening school democratic culture, inclusion in the school and educational environment and training in issues related to human rights.
The implementing body of the project is the European Wergeland Centre (EWC). The project is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, with the support of the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP).
At national level, the programme supports schools through a team of trainers, who collaborate with experienced trainers, a central programme management team, as well as the external evaluator of the programme.

November 2022
Mrs Michaloglou Thekla, trainer of the programme, visits our school and informs the Teaching Staff and the Headmaster of the school Mr Karaberis Christos about the aim of the programme as well as the possibility of its implementation at our school.
December 2022
Our school takes over the programme and the pedagogical group/team consisting of the following members is introduced: 1) Christos Karaberis, School Headmaster2) Damtsi Efthymia, English language teacher 3) Kyriazi Maria, Philologist 4) Hovardas Panagiotis, Reception Class Philologist , who is then replaced by Polyxeni Strati, Theologian 5) Rajab Alexandros, head of the Upper Town Refugee Structure 6) Papamanou Theodora, Refugee Education Coordinator 7) Plechak-Mohylna Nikalieta, 1st class Senior High School student 8) Gazawi Mohamed, 1st class Senior High School student and 9) Sejatllari Mateo, 2nd class Senior High School student.
January 2023
20-21/01/2023: The school participates in the Schools for All Academy at 9th Junior High School(Gymnasium) of Kalamaria. There also participate 30th Junior High School(Gymnasium) of Thessaloniki , EPA.L Vasilikon (Vocational Senior High School of Vasilika), Senior High School(General Lyceum) of Thermaikos and 9th Junior High School(Gymnasium) of Kalamaria. Our school is represented by the pedagogical team.
The participants have the opportunity to attend presentations, participate in experiential activities and work collaboratively in teams, creating draft activities which they present in the plenary session.
At the same time, TheA Hub (Hub A’ Thessaloniki) is created, in which the aforementioned schools participate.
30/01/2023: On the premises of Senior High School(General Lyceum) of Intercultural Education of Eastern Thessaloniki , training is carried out on the basic principles of the project with the aim of deepening the values and principles that contribute to the cultivation of a democratic and inclusive school environment. Senior High School(General Lyceum) of Intercultural Education of Eastern Thessaloniki, 30th Junior High School(Gymnasium) of Thessaloniki and 9th Junior High School( Gymnasium) of Kalamaria participate. In a particularly creative atmosphere, the members of the pedagogical groups/teams together with the trainers Mrs Panagiotidou Anna-Maria and Mrs Michaloglou Thekla(programme trainer for our school) participate in activities that strengthen the democratic spirit and the bonds of friendship between them. The “temple” with the values of the democratic school is created, which is then posted in the corner of the programme created in the school building.
In addition, each pedagogical group/team decides on the action plan of its school and plans the implementation steps.
February 2023
Early February: The activity planning form is drawn up and it is decided that the school timetable of all the school classes will be translated. The Teaching Staff and the Fifteen-Member Student Council are informed and the first activity, that of recording the native languages spoken at our school, begins.
13-20/02
The mother tongues/native languages of the male and female students per class are listed in a chart and are grouped on the basis of the class where they were traced. A team of translators is formed and the school prepares for the celebration of Mother Tongue Day (21/02).
21/02: Mother Tongue Day celebration, during which the mother tongues of the school are recorded on cards and posted in the programme corner.
22-28/02: The School Timetable of all the school classes is translated into the native languages of the male and female students of the school.
March 2023
The School Timetable is translated
- Α1 class in Georgian and North Macedonian(Slavomacedonian)
- Α2 class in Farsi, Arabic, Ukrainian and Georgian
- Β1 class in Albanian
- C1 class in Turkish and Polish
Creative writing-Answering the questions “Who am I?”, “Where am I?”, “What am I dreaming about?”
This is the title of the final joint action of all the schools of TheA Hub(A’ Thessaloniki) (Network of schools of eastern Thessaloniki). The preparation and creation of the creative writing projects are undertaken as follows: Mrs Kyriazi supervises A1 and A2 classes, Mrs Strati supervises B1 class and Mrs Damtsi supervises C1 class.
07/03
Educational visit to Telloglio Arts Foundation of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
A1 and A2 classes pay a teaching/educational visit to Telloglio Arts Foundation to the exhibition “Uprooting 1922-2022. Testimonies through Art”. The students of the two classes are guided through the exhibition and then express themselves artistically based on the exhibits and some worksheets. At the same time, there are discussions concerning the students’ expectations of the exhibition. The teaching/educational visit is planned by Ms Kyriazi and Ms Damtsi. This particular teaching/ educational visit works as support in terms of preparation for the final presentation of the creative writing projects.

29/03:At the office of the school headmaster, Mr Karaberis, the following members of the pedagogical group/team meet and take part in the creative writing activity: Karaberis Christos, Damtsi Efthymia, Kyriazi Maria, Rajab Alexandros and Mateo Sejatllari.
March and April 2023
The School Timetable is translated
- A1 in Russian and Albanian
- Β1 in Arabic
- C1 in Georgian
When the translations are completed, each child is given the school timetable in their native language. All school timetables are posted in the programme corner and in the classrooms.

The preparation and creation of creative writing projects are continued and are almost completed. Ms Kyriazi supervises A1 and A2 classes, Ms Strati B1 class and Ms Damtsi C1 class.
May 2023

The preparation and creation of creative writing projects are continued and completed. Mrs Kyriazi completes work with A1 and A2 classes, Mrs Strati with B1 class and Mrs Damtsi with C1 class.
02-05/05: The preparation and creation of the creative writing projects are completed and the pedagogical group/team prepares for the final festive event of the programme.
Ms Strati Polyxeni undertakes the preparation of the school presentation video, which is going to be shown in the central event.

It is decided that in the central event a poem written by Ms Strati and translated in English by Ms Damtsi is going to be presented. Ms Strati recites the Greek text and student Plechak-Mohylna Nikalieta recites the English text.
08/05: The school participates in the final celebratory cooperation/joint event of the schools belonging to TheA Hub at Kappa Theatre in Perea. The theme of the celebratory event was the following: “Who am I?”, “Where am I?”, “What am I dreaming about?” Apart from Senior High School(General Lyceum) of Intercultural Education of Eastern Thessaloniki, there also participate 9th Junior High School(Gymnasium) of Kalamaria, 30th Junior High School(Gymnasium) of Thessaloniki, EPA.L Vasilikon (Vocational Senior High School of Vasilika) and Senior High School(General Lyceum) of Thermaikos .
Before the main event of the programme, the students participate in group activities in the forecourt and beach area and then visit the school exhibition in the foyer of the theatre, where works in various forms (texts, painting, constructions) are exhibited, works which capture the thoughts and the answers of the students to the questions of the title of the event. The students choose the exhibits they like and participate in the interactive activity ”Photo & Send”, where they vote for the exhibit they liked and which they would like to have in their classroom.
The event continues in the central hall of the theatre with video presentations from all schools, theatrical events, recitation of poems and music in Greek, Arabic and Farsi in a particularly participatory, beautiful and moving atmosphere, which lets the public reflect and envision an inclusive and democratic school.

09-12/05 and 15-16/05: The school prepares for the presentation of all the activities of the programme before the Teaching Staff and the students.
17/05: All the students’ creations are presented at the school on the 17th of May in a short festive celebration, in which the Refugee Education Coordinator as well as the people in charge of the unaccompanied minors’ structure are present.
June 2023
– The students receive the presents of the programme: A fabric bag, a notebook and a pen.
– Students Arash Amiri, Plechak-Mohylna Nikalieta and Gogiashvili Karolina are rewarded for their works, which become posters in order to decorate our school as well as other schools in Greece. Congratulations!
