Texting, instant messaging, Facebook, Twitter – we have dozens of ways to pass a message from one user to the next, and yet we keep coming back to email. Why? According to the man who sent the first one, because there’s still nothing quite like it.
Possibly the most revealing statement that can be made about the power and perseverence of email is that – unlike almost everything else in the technology industry – how we use it has remained virtually unchanged for more than 40 years.
According to the Radicati Group, 144.8 billion emails are sent every day, and that number is projected to rise to 192.2 billion in 2016. Why Microsoft changed “hotmail” to “outlook.com”?
Microsoft announced that it was rebranding Hotmail — an email service whose name (“hot mail”) is so ineradicably stuck in the 1990s that its logo may as well have been Urkel — to the more modern and eye-pleasing Outlook.com.
When we think about Microsoft, we tend to think of nerdy, IT stereotypes: pocket protectors, calculator watches, atomic wedgies, sweaty desperation, armpit stains, the computer lab, bleep-bloop-bleep-bloop-bleep-bloop.
But in the last year — with Windows Phone Mango, Windows 8 Metro, the Surface tablet and the recent redesign of Hotmail to the fab-looking Outlook.com — a new Microsoft has emerged. Defying its reputation as a clutter-filled eyesore repository, Microsoft has proven to be one of the most stylish, design-forward companies in tech. No major tech company is churning out dazzling, adventurous and chic products like Microsoft, a company whose aesthetic now has more to do with Kanye’s “All of the Lights” video than the drab interiors of your standard fluorescent-lit cubicle farm.

Αναβάθμιση από windowslive, hotmail, live σε Outlook!
Μπορείτε να αποκτήσετε νέα (και δωρεάν) διεύθυνση ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου από το Outlook. Δεν χρειάζεται να ανησυχείτε για τις επαφές και τα προηγούμενα μηνύματα ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου σας, αν διατηρούσατε ήδη λογαριασμό στα hotmail, live, windowslive. Θα τα διατηρήσετε. Επίσης, θα συνεχίσετε να λαμβάνετε τα μηνύματα που στέλνονται στη διεύθυνσή σας στο Hotmail.
Οι υπάρχοντες χρήστες Hotmail μπορούν να επιλέξουν να κρατήσουν την ίδια διεύθυνση στο e-mail τους (π.χ. lambrosbouk@windowslive.com) ή να την αλλάξουν σε @outlook.com (όπως έκανα εγώ και την άλλαξα σε lambrosbouk@outlook.com). Δεν αλλάζει τίποτε απολύτως, καθώς ο παλιός λογαριασμός συγχωνεύεται με τον νέο. Επίσης, λειτουργεί κανονικά το msn με τον @outlook λογαριασμό.
Η αναβάθμιση στο Outlook γίνεται άμεσα: μπαίνετε στον υπάρχοντα Hotmail (ή Live ή Windowslive) λογαριασμό σας, πάτε στις Επιλογές (Options) και επιλέγετε “αναβάθμιση στο Outlook.com”. Μόλις γίνει αυτό, μπορείτε να πάτε στις ρυθμίσεις του mail και να δημιουργήσετε μια @outlook.com διεύθυνση επιλέγοντας “Δημιουργία ψευδώνυμου outlook” (εγώ επίλεξα απευθείας “μετονομασία διεύθυνσης ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου”).
