Advent Calendar: TASK 22 by Serbia

Κατηγορία 2nd Primary School of Akrata, eTwinning 2016, Advent Calendar, projects 2016-2017 , στις 20 Δεκεμβρίου 2016 από
‘Gift giving on Christmas is not a Serbian tradition—instead, gifts are given on the three Sundays before Christmas Day. These three holidays are called Detinjci, Materice, and Oci. Children give gifts on Detinjci, married women on Materice, and married men on Oci. The best presents are exchanged between parents and their children. The gifts are given in the form of a ransom. In the morning of Detinjci, the adults use a belt, rope, or scarf to tie their and neighbors’ children, binding their legs. The children have already prepared presents for this event, with which they “pay the ransom” and get untied. In the morning of Materice, the children suddenly tie their mother, who asks, as if surprised, why she has been tied. The children then wish a happy Feast of Materice to her, and she pays the ransom with the prepared presents. They may do the same with married women from their neighborhood. Mothers prepare a family feast on this day. In the morning of Oci, the Sunday immediately before Christmas Day, the children tie their father. Out of these three holidays, Materice is the most festive.’
Your task is to prepare gifts for your parents.
So, the kids put the Swedish biscuits they baked in beautifully painted paper bags and they gave them to their parents as a present!

In Sweden they love candles. They light them especially during the dark autumn and winter days and of course at Christmas! Each of the four Advent Sundays they light one new candle on a special candleholder. Every morning at school kids light up candles while their teacher reads a story to them.

So, we were asked to make owr own candles!

Hara’s illustration for the story

‘In Poland when children wait for Christmas, parents read them Christmas stories . We would to write Christmas story with you. Children from Poland will begin, then Lithuania write continue, next Slovenia, Sweden Greece, UK, and Serbia. ‘

So all the partners are writing a new Christmas story together. Today class ST wrote their part today:

-‘Let’s get to work, then!’ said Santa. ‘Let’s go to the workshop!’ he said to Christopher and the unicorn. But when they went into the workshop they couldn’t believe their eyes! Everything was upside down, the toys were broken, the tools were gone even the Christmas tree was on the floor and all the ornaments were broken. Santa was very sad and so disappointed…’What a disaster…I won’t make it…It’s impossible to repair all these toys in time for Christmas…I am afraid it will be the first Christmas that kids from the UK, Poland, Greece, Lithuania, Serbia, Slovenia and Sweden won’t get any presents…Who could have done such a bad thing?’

-‘We will help you, Santa!’ said Christopher! ‘I will go to get some help!’

So, he jumped on the unicorn’s back and left for the tall icebergs. The next day while Santa was sitting on his armchair by the fireplace making a new list with the things- to- do he heard lots of footsteps outside. He opened the door and to his surprise there was Christopher with an army of penguins ready to get to work! Santa was so excited! They started working all day and all night long. But the next morning….

Hara is going to drew an illustration for it, too!

Christmas Fun: video conference with Poland

Κατηγορία 1st Primary School of Akrata, eTwinning 2016, Christmas Fun, projects 2016-2017 , στις 14 Δεκεμβρίου 2016 από

We were lucky this time!!! It was a wonderful video conference with great communication between class C and the Romanian class. Not only did they introduce themselves and exchange Christmas songs, Christmas words and wishes but they had lots of questions for each other! The Greek pupils were surprised to hear that Christmas Eve is so important in Poland and it is celebrated with a 12-course-meal that includes fish and poppy cake. They didn’t know also that in Poland carols are sung after dinner at home, wereas in Greece the kids sing carols from door to door on Christmas Eve morning. Moreover, the Polish carols are very sentimental and have serious melodies and slow rythm wereas in Greece carols are more rythmic. They were also happy to see that their Polish friends were of the same age and they were in the same class! All in all, a very nice conference! Thank you for this wonderful experience! We had fun and learned a lot!
