Saying Goodbye to a Wonderful School Year

As the school year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to look back and celebrate everything we’ve accomplished together. What a productive, creative, and inspiring year it has been!

From the very first day in September to the last goodbyes in June, our classrooms have been full of curiosity, laughter, and learning. Whether it was tackling new challenges, discovering new interests, or growing in confidence, each of our students brought something special to the group—and we’re so proud of how far they’ve come.

📚 What We Learned

This year wasn’t just about textbooks and tests. It was about exploring ideas, asking questions, and working together. My students have sharpened their reading and writing skills, deepened their understanding of the world, and learned how to think critically and creatively.

They’ve also developed important life skills—teamwork, time management, responsibility, and kindness. These lessons are just as valuable as anything found in a curriculum.

🌱 Projects, Events & Highlights

Some of our favorite moments include:

  • Exciting hands-on projects and creative group work
  • Class celebrations for holidays and special days
  • Participating in Earth Day / World Environment Day activities
  • Watching each student shine in their own unique way—whether in presentations, performances, or everyday classroom moments

💬 A Message to my Students

To my amazing students:
You’ve worked hard, supported each other, and grown in so many ways. You’ve made your teachers proud, your families proud—and most importantly, you should be proud of yourselves. Keep your curiosity alive and remember that learning doesn’t stop when the school year ends.

🌞 Wishing Everyone a Happy Summer

As we head into summer, we hope everyone finds time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the sunshine. Read a good book, play outside, explore something new—and don’t forget to take care of yourselves and the world around you.

Thank you all—students, families, and colleagues—for a fantastic school year. Here’s to everything we’ve achieved and everything yet to come! ✨

See you in September!

Active Citizenship : Two languages, one heart-the 5th grade speaks up! (Podcasts)

As part of the “Active Citizenship” project, the 5th-grade students participated in the creation of a digital library of audio stories (podcasts) in both Greek and English. The stories were either written by the students themselves or inspired by books they have read.PODCAST IMAGE

A common theme across all stories is the acceptance of diversity and inclusion. The students read the stories aloud, highlighting the importance of accessibility to children’s books for all children.

Celebrating World Environment Day (5th June)

June 5th is the World Environment Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness and taking action to protect our planet. This year, our 5th grade students embraced the spirit of Earth Day with enthusiasm, creativity, and a deep sense of responsibility.

🌍 Why We Celebrate Earth Day

Before diving into activities, we had a meaningful discussion about why Earth Day matters. We talked about the importance of taking care of our planet, how human actions affect the environment, and the small but powerful changes we can make in our everyday lives. Students shared their own ideas about how we can all contribute—recycling more, using less plastic, planting trees, and walking or biking instead of driving.

Earth Day might only come once a year, but the lessons we learned will stay with us. Our 5th graders are proof that young people can lead the way in protecting our planet—with creativity, compassion, and commitment.

Let’s continue to nurture these seeds of awareness and action every day. After all, the Earth is in our hands!

The 7th Rhetoric Art Festival

PosterAthens 1 page 0001With great enthusiasm, my school participated for the 4th consecutive year in the 7th Rhetoric Art Festival under the theme “Talking about the Games of Yesterday and Today.” The Festival took place on Sunday, May 18th, at the National Library of Greece – Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. It was co-organized by the Directorates of Primary Education of A’ Athens, Eastern Attica, C’ Athens, D’ Athens, and Piraeus (through their Cultural Affairs Coordinators), in collaboration with the Institute of Rhetorical and Communication Studies of Greece.

The students of the E2 class took part in the expressive reading category. They prepared with consistency and dedication, working both individually and as a team after their regular classes. Expressive reading is a particularly demanding yet captivating form of verbal expression. The students are called to read a text with accuracy, emotion, and clarity, highlighting its meaning.

Our students rose to this challenge with enthusiasm. With care, patience, and working on their voice and style, they worked to present their texts—from Greek and foreign literature—with respect and creativity. These texts involved a magical spinning top, a wooden horse, a symbolic chess game, a game during boring Sunday afternoons, a girl’s complaints about the “nice” toys being hidden from her so she wouldn’t break them, and a game of riddles…OIG4 2

Our students’ presence was outstanding and left a positive impression, proving that a text can come to life when performed with the right emotion. Expressive reading is not just a speech activity—it is an art. And our students showed that they have real talent for it!

Warm congratulations to all the children for their efforts and dedication!

A big “Thank you!” to the students’ parents for supporting our efforts!

I also want to thank our schoolteacher Ms. Maria Kaptanelli for offering her classroom during our preparation and for her actual support by attending the Festival!

St. George, the patron saint of England

Every year on April 23rd, England celebrates St George’s Day, a day dedicated to the country’s patron saint. But who exactly was St George, and why is he so important?f88d66c63437f4a147bd8d37be1197e5

St George was a Roman soldier born in the 3rd century, likely in what is now modern-day Turkey. He became famous for refusing to give up his Christian faith and was martyred around the year 303 AD. Over time, his bravery and dedication turned him into a legendary figure.

The most famous story about St George is the tale of St George and the Dragon. According to legend, a fearsome dragon was terrorising a town, and the people were forced to offer sacrifices to keep it away. When the king’s daughter was chosen as the next victim, George bravely fought and killed the dragon, saving the princess and the town. This heroic act made him a symbol of courage, honour, and protection.

Today, the red cross of St George is part of the Union Jack, and it also appears on England’s flag. While St George’s Day is not a public holiday, many people still mark the occasion with flags, parades, and traditional English food.

Even though the story is more legend than fact, St George represents bravery and standing up for what is right—values that are still important today.
