The 7th Rhetoric Art Festival

PosterAthens 1 page 0001With great enthusiasm, my school participated for the 4th consecutive year in the 7th Rhetoric Art Festival under the theme “Talking about the Games of Yesterday and Today.” The Festival took place on Sunday, May 18th, at the National Library of Greece – Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. It was co-organized by the Directorates of Primary Education of A’ Athens, Eastern Attica, C’ Athens, D’ Athens, and Piraeus (through their Cultural Affairs Coordinators), in collaboration with the Institute of Rhetorical and Communication Studies of Greece.

The students of the E2 class took part in the expressive reading category. They prepared with consistency and dedication, working both individually and as a team after their regular classes. Expressive reading is a particularly demanding yet captivating form of verbal expression. The students are called to read a text with accuracy, emotion, and clarity, highlighting its meaning.

Our students rose to this challenge with enthusiasm. With care, patience, and working on their voice and style, they worked to present their texts—from Greek and foreign literature—with respect and creativity. These texts involved a magical spinning top, a wooden horse, a symbolic chess game, a game during boring Sunday afternoons, a girl’s complaints about the “nice” toys being hidden from her so she wouldn’t break them, and a game of riddles…OIG4 2

Our students’ presence was outstanding and left a positive impression, proving that a text can come to life when performed with the right emotion. Expressive reading is not just a speech activity—it is an art. And our students showed that they have real talent for it!

Warm congratulations to all the children for their efforts and dedication!

A big “Thank you!” to the students’ parents for supporting our efforts!

I also want to thank our schoolteacher Ms. Maria Kaptanelli for offering her classroom during our preparation and for her actual support by attending the Festival!
