As part of our eTwinning project “Biodiversity Guardians: Protecting Nature Together”, students and teachers from 1st General Lyceum of Preveza, Zalongo Gymnasium, Vonitsa High School, and Liceo Scientifico Statale “G. Berto” (Italy) participated in an unforgettable environmental exploration day on 18 of February 2025!
🌍 Visit to OFYPEKA & Guided Tour by Stratos Floudas
Our day began with a visit to OFYPEKA Preveza (Management Body for Protected Areas), where we had the honor of a guided tour by environmental expert Stratos Floudas. He provided us with valuable insights into:
✅ The unique biodiversity of the Amvrakikos Gulf
✅ The threats to local ecosystems and conservation efforts
✅ The importance of student involvement in protecting nature
🔬 Exploring the Natural History Museum of Saint Thomas
Next, we visited the Natural History Museum in Agios Thomas, where we had the opportunity to:
🏛️ Discover exhibits on local flora and fauna
🔎 Learn about the geology and natural evolution of the region
🌿 Understand the ecological significance of wetlands
🦅 Birdwatching at Rodia Lagoon
Our final stop was the Rodia Lagoon, a breathtaking wetland area within the Amvrakikos ecosystem. With binoculars in hand, students had the chance to:
🔭 Observe rare and migratory bird species
📖 Identify different wetland habitats and their importance
🌊 Discuss the impact of climate change on these ecosystems
This experience helped us all connect with nature, deepen our knowledge of biodiversity, and reinforce our commitment to environmental protection. A big thank you to all the students, teachers, and experts who made this day so special!
