V. The Teachers of Knowledge

The Druids were important teachers in Celtic Britain.

They taught the children of important families.

They used to teach by speaking and repeating lessons because they did not have books.

Students learned four main things:

● Rules: how to do the right thing and follow the village rules.

● History: stories about their people, their families, and old battles.

● Nature and Medicine: which plants and flowers could help sick people.

● Religion: stories about the gods and special ceremonies.

Some students used to study for many years -even 20 years- to become Druids themselves.

They had to remember everything by heart.

Homework: Compare your life today to the life of the children in ancient England. Find differences and similarities. You could draw a poster if you want!

Look at the example:

Children in ancient England used to live in a house with only one room.

I live in a house with many rooms.
