Seeds come in different sizes, shapes, and colors. Some can be eaten and some can’t. Some seeds germinate easily while others need certain conditions to be met before they will germinate.
Do you know that within every seed lives a tiny plant or embryo? You can hold in your hand 500 radishes, many thousands of petunias, or an entire meadow if you remember that each seed is a plant! Seeds travel! They can’t just get up and walk to a new location, but structures on the seed may allow it to move to a new location. Some of the moving forces might be wind, water, animals, and gravity. Look at the seeds below and think about how they might travel from place to place. The seeds of the traditional varieties which we have inherited from our ancestors thousands of years ago are beginning to vanish in our days and with them we are losing our connection with them and the biodiversity. What teachers and students can do is to become an ark which will protect and save these seeds.
ΣΤΌΧΟΙ
The objectives of the project are:
1. Learn to sow and nourish the plants according to their needs.
2. To understand the differences between traditional seeds from seed sold commercially.
3. Learn that traditional seeds endangered.
4. To take an active role in solving the problem, spreading and sharing of traditional varieties of plants to growers.
Investigate how seeds are dispersed.
Understand the variety of seed dispersal that exists in the plant kingdom.
Understand how factors in the natural environment can affect how far a seed is dispersed.
Types of seeds
Seeds in human development
Be aware that:
Plants are living things.
Plants have roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and seeds.
Seeds of plants will only reproduce the same plant.
Some seeds are edible.
Some plants are a source of food.

ΔΙΑΔΙΚΑΣΊΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΡΓΑΣΊΑΣ
Collect a wide variety of seeds to share. Saving seeds
Offer children a look inside!

Sing some seed songs
STUDENTS WILL BECOME AWARE OF SEEDS BY MAKING A COLLECTION OF SEEDS FROM HOME, SCHOOL OR SURROUNDING PLAYGROUND OR FOREST AREA.
• STUDENTS WILL THINK ABOUT HOW SEEDS TRAVEL FROM PLACE TO PLACE.
• STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT KIND OF ENVIRONMENT SEEDS WILL FLOURISH IN.
• STUDENTS WILL PLANT TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF SEEDS AND OBSERVE THEM GROWING. MATERIALS
The students of every school have to:
10-20 of March:
search and find seeds of traditional variety of plants of their region and write a short story about their characteristics and the route of every variety they have found
20 – 25 of March:

nourish their plants which will grow
Beginning of May:
cultivate a part of their seeds/ plants
ΑΝΑΜΕΝΌΜΕΝΑ ΑΠΟΤΕΛΈΣΜΑΤΑ
1. The children have to find as many seeds as they can of traditional varieties and multiply them and spread them and enjoy their participation in solving the problem.
2. The students should gain joy from their creativity and the knowledge of cultivating which is missed in our days.
3. By communicating with other students they will understand that the problem is the same in all the countries with which they cooperate and that together we are all trying to solve it.
This lesson plan addresses the following national standards:
• Science: Life Sciences — Understands the structure and functions of cells and organisms
• Life Skills: Working With Others — Displays effective interpersonal communication skills
• Language Arts: Writing — Gathers and uses information for research purposes; Reading–Uses reading skills and strategies to understand and interpret a variety of informational texts

Project work is not only about the persons involved, but rather about the cooperation in the team. This is the attitude that you should convey to your team members. Build up confidence within the team and maintain an open and honest communication. Problems and friction must be discussed, and should not be swept under the rug
Every project has a unique team and functional structure
Be on time for all team meetings.
Inform team leader if unable to complete work on time.
· Keep a positive attitude toward the team, individual members, projects and course.
· Take initiative by offering ideas and volunteering for tasks.
· Play an equal role in the team by contributing equally to every task.
· Be honest with any team member
Help one another with difficult or time consuming deliverables.
Ask for help from the team or other resources if “stuck” or falling behind.
Treat each other with respect.
Accept responsibility and accountability along with the authority given.
Chances are you will not be completing this project alone. Don’t forget that your team can’t read minds and you will need to communicate with them to get them on board, solicit ideas, brainstorm and let them know what the deadlines are. Be honest and listen to their thoughts on how to get things done

You can teach this poem to your students, it may be also sung to the tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’.
Below, another funny poem and wise at the same time, as it explains the nature, answers the children’s questions. In my materials I’ve got black and white version of this poem to print for students. Let them enjoy poetry!

I’ve collected these pictures from the Internet to demonstrate the children what can we make from vegetables and to encourage them to describe these funny animals in English (colours, parts of the body, names of animals and vegetables).
