I AM A TOURIST!!
I took my B’ classes out for a walk around Parikia. They acted as if they were tourists visiting Paros for the first time. They played double roles: tourists and tour guides as well. They asked and answered questions about the places they saw, like the archeological museum, the Ekatontapiliani church, the port and the ships that sail in and out, shops around the area etc. The purpose of our walk was to think in English, act out a real situation (like any tourist) using English to get around. Students were a bit confused in the beginning but in the end they finally managed to complete their task. Enjoy the photos that were taken; they really enjoyed it! (Not all students wished to be photographed.)
Descriptive adjectives for people
Here’s some useful vocabulary for describing people and talking about physical appearance. Remember that you need to be quite careful when you’re describing people. At the bottom of this page are some tips for being tactful.
Age
If you’re old you might have a pension, so you’re an old age pensioner, or a senior citizen. An old person might be 65 years old and over.
Before you’re old (around 55, for example) you can be middle-aged. If you have children when you’re this age, they can be young adult (20-25 years of age) or teenager. (13-19).
There are other words for younger children. For example, a toddler is around 1-3 years old, while a baby is from 0-12 months old.
Characteristics
Skin and Complexion
Complexion is the natural appearance and color of the skin, especially of the face.
For example, “Mary has a soft, creamy complexion.”
Wrinkled( covered with lines or loose folds of skin; often associated with age,) Freckled( sprinkled or covered with light brown spots), Ruddy( skin that has a reddish tint; may have the appearance of sunburn), Sallow( skin that has a yellowish tint; may be associated with illness), Tanned( skin with a warm, golden-brown tint), Rosy or fresh-faced( pink-cheeked, fair complexion that glows with a hint of pink)
Other skin-related adjectives: pale, fair, spotless, silky, smooth, creamy, dewy(moist), baby-soft, peaches-and-cream, glowing, paper-thin or translucent (as with a very old person), sunburned, peeling, rough, callused(a tough area of skin), weathered, weatherbeaten, craggy(rugged and uneven, rocklike), leathery(texture and appearance of leather), mottled(discoloration), dry, brown, dark
