December 3rd is observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). This day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development and to raise awareness of their situation in political, social, economic, and cultural life.
The annual observance of this day aims to foster understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. Each year, the UN announces a specific theme to focus on.
