OPA

George Alkaios (Eurovision 2010)

My favourite song is “OPA”. I like this song very much because it has as a title the Greek word “OPA”. This song is sung by George Alkaios and you can hear the Greek musical instrument which is called “lira”. It expresses happiness, joy. We say “OPA” when we happy or when we dance. The rhythm is both traditional and modern. (Vasso Baglatzi)

“OPA” was the Greek song for the Eurovision contest in 2010. From this song I understand that we must forget about the past and care about the present and the future. This song has a great rhythm and you can dance to it! (Debbie Kalogirou)

TELEPHONE

Lady Gaga

Just a second, it’s my favorite song they’re gonna play
And I cannot text you with a drink in my hand, eh…
You shoulda made some plans with me,
you knew that I was free.
And now you won’t stop calling me;
I’m kinda busy.
Stop callin’, stop callin’,
I don’t wanna think anymore!
I left my hand and my heart on the dance floor.
Stop callin’, stop callin’,
I don’t wanna talk anymore!
I left my hand and my heart on the dance floor.
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh…
Stop telephonin’ me!
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh…
I’m busy!
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh…
Stop telephonin’ me!
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh…

My favourite song is “Telephone” by Lady Gaga. There is a girl who is in jail and is tired of her phone, because her boyfriend calls her all the time. Then, after she’s done her service, she goes out with her best friend, Beyonce, and they kill some people with poison and they are wanted – to be continued… (Jim Mortos)

FAIRYTALE

Alexander Rybak

Years ago, when I was younger
I kinda liked, a girl I knew
She was mine, and we were sweethearts
That was then, but then it’s true.
I’m in love, with a fairytale
even though it hurts,
cause I don’t care if I lose my mind
I’m already cursed
Every day, we started fighting
Every night, we fell in love
no one else could make me sadder
but no one else could lift me high above
I don’t know what I was doing
when suddenly we fell apart
nowadays I cannot find her,
but when I do we’ll get a brand new start
I’m in love, with a fairytale
even though it hurts,
cause I don’t care if I lose my mind
I’m already cursed
She’s a fairytale, yeah
even though it hurts
cause I don’t care if I lose my mind
I’m already cursed

I like this song because it talks about a story of love and the lyrics are too emotional. It can be heard by people of all ages and it is a song which includes classical music, for the people who like culture. Something else that I like is the rhythm and the voice of the singer. (Alexia Anastasiou)

HEAL THE WORLD

Michael Jackson

We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart I feel
You are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
Together we’ll cry happy tears
See the nations turn
Their swords into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
Make a little space to make a better place.
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for
You and for me.
There are people dying if you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me.
There are people dying if you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me.

This is my favourite song, because it talks about the poor families and the hungry children. It is a song which talks about a better place for children and for all people in the world. If we try, we will manage to save the world from dying. If we try, we will manage to make a better place for all people in the world. Let’s make it a better place for all of us. (Georgia Sideridou)

TELL ME SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW

Selena Gomez

Everybody tells me that it’s so hard to make it,
it’s so hard to break it,
and there’s no way to fake it.
Everybody tells me that it’s wrong what I’m feeling,
I shouldn’t believe in,
the dreams that I’m dreamin’.
I hear it everyday,
I hear it all the time.
I’m never gonna amount to much
but they’re never gonna change my mind.
OH!
Tell me, tell me, tell me,
something I don’t know.
Tell me, tell me, tell me,
something I don’t know.
How many inches in a mile?
What it takes to make you smile.
Getcha not to treat me like, a child, baby

My favourite song is “Tell me Something I Don’t Know”. I like this song because it has very meaningful lyrics and it has a great rhythm that makes you want to dance! This song talks about a young girl who hears the same things all the time. Because of this, she is bored. She wants to hear something new. (Effie Tsilochristou)

LET’S DANCE – November 2009 Issue

LET’S DANCE!
by Effie Tsilichristou & Georgia Sideridou (6th grade)

Here, in Almyros, there is a dance teacher, Mrs. Ritsa Karanika, who teaches modern hip – hop, oriental, latin, tango, jive, cha – cha to like who like dancing. She was kind enough to answer to some questions about dancing.

First of all, we asked her what she thinks dancing offers to children and she answered that it offers a beautiful and worked-up body and maybe for some children an opportunity to have a good job. Then, we asked her how she has decided to set up her dance school and she answered that, when she was young, she loved this job and she chose to do this professionally.

Our next question was for how many years she has been teaching dancing and she said to us that she has been doing it for 8 years. We also wanted to know why she likes dancing and she informed us that it combines both gymnastics and fun!

After that, we asked her how many performances she has organized and in how many of them she has participated and she told us that she has organized 16 performances and participated in 12 of them. In the end, our last question was about the cities where she teaches dancing and she said that she teaches dancing in Thessaloniki, Athens, Zagora, Stefanovikio, Risomilos, Almyros and Volos.

We would like to thank her for her time and the information she gave us. We advise you to go to this dance school because it is fantastic! We love our teacher very much, because she is a very kind and good teacher. This dance school is at the place where KTEL used to be in Almyros and its name is “Magic Steps”. It is suitable for all ages and – in our opinion – Mrs Karanika teaches in the best possible way!
