The 5 Major Benefits of 3D Printing in Education

5 major benefits of 3D printing’s impact on education

  • Creates Excitement – 3D printing offers students the ability to experience their projects from the model stage to actual creation of the model. This creates both excitement and a better understanding of the design process as they gain hands-on experience it from conception to creation. The individual features are seen more clearly as the student builds the project layer by layer. Excitement also stems from the ability to explore details in reality, not just on a screen or in a textbook. 3D printing also brings the world of theory to the physical world where students can see and touch, opening up new possibilities for learning and activities.

  • Complements the Curriculum – No matter what curriculum is being used, 3D printing can help students and teachers work better. 3D printing elevates students from being passive consumers of information on a screen with no thought given to productivity. Unlike conventional classrooms where students are easily bored, they become active and engaged participants through the conception, design, and execution of their projects and interacting with the 3D printer and the teacher.

7 benefits of using 3D printing technology in Education

Source

1. Creating inventors

3D printing technology positions students as creators. Instead of buying or consuming the creations of someone else they become inventors who can identify needs and create solutions. Check out this awesome school nature play area designed by students using Makers Empire and then built by landscapers. Or learn about William Graeme, a diabetic, who invented a world-first, sanitary device for storing used blood testing strips. Given the right tools, resources and support, what amazing inventions could your students create?

2. Bringing art back

Although art is already making a bit of a comeback with the advent of STEAM education, 3D printing will help catapult it to the top. With 3D printing, students become designers and creators using cutting-edge technology to visualize and create their own imaginations. Not to mention the growth students will have in their spatial reasoning skills and 2D to 3D conversion understanding, which has been found to be a predictor of future success

Summary

It was observed by all our partners during education and training that rapidly growing robotic applications in education attracted the interest and attention of the students and helped them to participate classes more effectively and more enthusiastically. Preparing today’s students requires educational systems to provide a core body of knowledge as well as a set of skills needed. At the same time the rapid growth of digital tools available increase the challenges of nowadays. The high exposure of 21st century students in web 2.0 tools, devices, and environments opens a window of new affordances, challenges, opportunities, and skills for learning/teaching and assessment.
