January’s newsletter

The first week back at Play & Learn was all about kids’ adjustment to their school environment. The kindergarteners were encouraged to play their favorite ring games and to explore new toys & activities. The time was spent on discussing about themselves, their strengths, their interests & their ideas.

Through books like ‘’The dot’’, ‘’Giraffes can’t dance’’ & ‘’The lion inside’’ we tried to enhance our students’ self-confidence. Presentations about themselves, name exercises, show & tells, superpower games were some of the activities that we implemented during those days.

The following week we worked on the skill lab project and the environmental health which was part of it. We played sorting games about good & bad environmental habits, we talked about the earth and all the things that make her ”happy” & make her ”sad”, we focused on the recycling process and we played ‘’use, reuse & recycle’’ games in class. In the end, we made snowmen out of old egg cartons as part of our recycling theme.

The last week of January we focused on the extreme changes in weather. What kind of weather phenomena do we know? Why does it rain? How snow is being created? The students explored the different weather changes through experiments by using materials that they could find at home. We also read weather stories like ‘’Little cloud’’ by Eric Carle and we practiced our math skills by observing the different cloud shapes. Last but not least we completed our theme by creating our own imaginary clouds. We only needed cotton wool, glue, paper, and our own imagination…
