Κάθε χρόνο, από το 1961 και μετά στις 23 Μαρτίου, ο Παγκόσμιος Μετεωρολογικός Οργανισμός τιμώντας την επέτειο της ημέρας εφαρμογής της ιδρυτικής Συνθήκης του (την 23η Μαρτίου 1950), γιορτάζει την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Μετεωρολογίας, διοργανώνοντας εορταστικές εκδηλώσεις σε όλο τον κόσμο.

Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, κάθε χρόνο επιλέγεται ένα επίκαιρο κεντρικό θέμα, που σχετίζεται με τον καιρό, το κλίμα και το νερό ενώ παράλληλα παρουσιάζεται και το έργο των Εθνικών Μετεωρολογικών & Υδρολογικών Υπηρεσιών, που έχει σαν σκοπό την ασφάλεια και την ευημερία της κοινωνίας και των πολιτών της.

Για το 2022, επιλέχθηκε το θέμα που έχει τίτλο «Έγκαιρη προειδοποίηση-Έγκαιρη δράση», με στόχο να επισημάνει τη σημασία της κατάλληλης προετοιμασίας που θα δώσει τη δυνατότητα δράσης τη σωστή στιγμή και στο σωστό μέρος, σε ένα κόσμο όπου τα ακραία καιρικά, κλιματικά και υδρολογικά φαινόμενα είναι όλο πιο συχνά και πιο έντονα.
