Στο μέγιστο 15-ετίας η χιονοκάλυψη τον Απρίλιο στην Ελλάδα

Η κακοκαιρία που επικράτησε την πρώτη εβδομάδα του Απριλίου 2020 στη χώρα μας οδήγησε σε σημαντική αύξηση της χιονοκάλυψης, στα υψηλότερα επίπεδα των τελευταίων τουλάχιστον 15 ετών. Στις 2 Απριλίου το 10% της χερσαίας έκτασης της Ελλάδας βρισκόταν κάτω από φρέσκο στρώμα χιονιού, ποσοστό που ξεπεράστηκε μόλις 2 φορές τον φετινό χειμώνα.

Στην Εικόνα 1 βλέπετε το ημερήσιο ποσοστό χιονοκάλυψης στην Ελλάδα φέτος μέχρι τις 6 Απριλίου και τις μέσες τιμές της περιόδου 2004 – 2020, όπως εκτιμήθηκαν από δορυφορικές μετρήσεις. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι στα τέλη Ιανουαρίου καταγράφηκε το αντίστοιχο ελάχιστο 15-ετίας με μόλις το 1.3% της χώρας μας να είναι καλυμμένο από χιόνι.

Η δορυφορική εικόνα της NASA που ελήφθη την Τετάρτη 8 Απριλίου (Εικόνα 2) δείχνει ότι η χιονοκάλυψη είναι ακόμη σημαντική σε πολλές ορεινές περιοχές.
