Γλωσσική Επίγνωση (μέρος δ’) – Match text and heading
Το συγκεκριμένο θέμα απαιτεί κατανόηση του νοήματος της παραγράφου προκειμένου να τη συνδέσουμε με μία φράση. Η φράση μπορεί να είναι το νόημα της παραγράφου, τίτλος βιβλίου ή είδος εντύπου, στο οποίο περιέχεται η παράγραφος, σύντομη συμβουλή κλπ. Είναι σημαντικό να διαβάσουμε προσεκτικά την εκφώνηση του θέματος, ώστε να καταλάβουμε τι ‘ψάχνουμε’ και αν κάποια επιλογή περισσεύει.
Επειδή ενδέχεται κάποιοι τίτλοι να φαίνονται ότι ταιριάζουν σε περισσότερες παραγράφους, πρέπει να βρούμε το βασικό νόημα της παραγράφου. Κι εννοείται ότι η καλή γνώση του λεξιλογίου και η προσοχή στους χρόνους των ρημάτων και τις συνδετικές λέξεις θα μας βοηθήσει.
Ας δούμε το παράδειγμα:

1. The link between climate change and biodiversity has long been established. Although throughout Earth’s history the climate has always changed, with ecosystems and species coming and going, rapid climate change affects the ability of ecosystems and species to adapt and so biodiversity loss increases. |

From a human perspective, the rapid climate change and accelerating biodiversity loss jeopardize human security, as there could be a major change in the food chain upon which we depend, water sources may change, recede or disappear, medicines and other resources we rely on may be harder to obtain, as the plants they are derived from may disappear, and so on. |

3. The UN’s Global Biodiversity Outlook 3, in May 2010, summarized some concerns over climate change and ecosystems: “The impact of climate change on biodiversity is likely to become a progressively more significant threat in the coming decades. A major issue is the loss of Arctic sea ice while higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will lead to further ocean acidification”. |
C. The pace of climate change matters |

4. “Moreover, current levels of climate change are already taking their toll on ecosystems. In addition to rising temperatures, more frequent extreme weather conditions and changing patterns of rainfall and drought also interfere with biodiversity”. |
D. Effects on the human species |

5. Some species may benefit from climate change (including, from a human perspective, an increase in diseases and pests, which is not a welcome change, of course) but, in any case, the rapid nature of the change suggests that most species will not find it as beneficial, as most will not be able to adapt. |

F. ‘Selective’ survival |
Πώς δουλεύουμε:
Στο 1 το βασικό νόημα είναι η απότομη αλλαγή (rapid change). Το συνδέουμε, επομένως με το C, που αναφέρει το ρυθμό των αλλαγών (pace of change)
Το 2 μιλάει για τις επιπτώσεις στους ανθρώπους (jeopardize human security). Το κείμενο θα μπορούσε να συνδεθεί με το Α, που αναφέρεται σε ζοφερές προοπτικές (Βleak prospects) ή με το D, που αναφέρεται στην επίδραση στον άνθρωπο (Effects on the human species). Το αφήνουμε σε εκκρεμότητα και προχωράμε.
Το 3 μιλάει για μελλοντικές επιπτώσεις της κλιματικής αλλαγής. Το ότι μιλάει για το μέλλον το καταλαβαίνουμε από τις εκφράσεις: in the coming decades, is likely to become, will lead to. Εδώ ο μόνος τίτλος, που ταιριάζει είναι το Α (Βleak prospects). Το Ε μιλάει, βέβαια, για effects of changing weather patterns αλλά είναι Current (= τωρινά).
Τώρα μπορούμε να γυρίσουμε στο 2 και να το συνδέσουμε με το D.
Το 4 αναφέρεται στο παρόν (current, και χρόνος Ενεστώτας: are already taking, interfere). Το συνδέουμε με το E. Βέβαια, γενικά, πρέπει να είμαστε επιφυλακτικοί όταν βρίσκουμε την ίδια λέξη στο κείμενο και στον τίτλο.
Το 5 αναφέρεται στην επιβίωση των ειδών, που θα μπορέσουν να προσαρμοστούν (able to adapt). Επομένως συνδέεται με το F (‘Selective’ survival)
To B δεν αναφέρεται πουθενά και είναι αυτό που ‘περισσεύει’.
