Mε αφορμή ένα project του βιβλίου μας με θέμα την πτώση του Ίκαρου από τον γνωστό μύθο του Δαίδαλου και του Ίκαρου (Unit 4, Lesson 3, pg. 46, Τhe Fall of Icarus), oι μαθητές της ΣΤ ήρθαν σε επαφή με τον πίνακα του ζωγράφου Pieter Bruegel και το ποίημα του William Carlos William που ακολουθούν, εστίασαν στα συναισθήματα που απορρέουν από τα δύο έργα τέχνης, βρήκαν πληροφορίες για τη ζωή των καλλιτεχνών και έψαξαν νέα ποιήματα και πίνακες ζωγραφικής πάνω στο ίδιο θέμα, τα οποία και παρουσίασαν στην μικρή μας exhibition στην τάξη.
Using Poetry in class: Any authentic material exposes students to some ‘real English’ and can be very motivating for our students. Another advantage about poems is for students to have the opportunity to see the language work creatively and freely. It is also worth mentioning that, apart from acquiring new linguistic elements, igniting curiosity and inspiring writing, one of poetry’s transcendent powers is its ability to refocus, if not totally transform, our point of view. It’s far too simple for both students and teachers to lose themselves in their egocentric viewpoints, and fail to consider issues from another perspective. Poetry is bound to boost our open-mindedness.
