Prologue

Sukuna confronts Satoru Gojo

Gojo returns and the two strongest come face-to-face.

Satoru Gojo’s allies free him from Prison Realm using Hana Kurusu‘s Jacob’s Ladder. He immediately confronts Kenjaku intending to lay his best friend, Suguru Geto‘s body to rest. Kenjaku reveals Prison Realm was sealed inside the Japan Trench as a failsafe in case Gojo escaped. However, as far as Kenjaku can tell, Gojo is completely unharmed. Kenjaku tries to make small talk about Gojo’s time inside the cursed object but Gojo warns Kenjaku to choose his last words carefully. He activates Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue with high output, creating a sphere with a field of attraction that pulls in everything nearby, including Kenjaku.

Sukuna intervenes to stop Gojo and they clash in mid-air. Blue deactivates and Gojo learns Sukuna has taken Megumi‘s body. Sukuna reminds Gojo that he threatened to kill him when they first met and expresses his intentions to make good on that threat. Gojo mocks Sukuna for running away from Yuji and the disrespect angers Uraume. Before Uraume can lash out, Gojo punches them in the gut and sends them flying from the impact.

Utahime's ritual

Utahime prepares a ritual for Gojo’s pre-emptive strike.

Kenjaku requests Sukuna wait to fight, and Gojo agrees because he also needs to prepare. Gojo suggests their showdown take place on December 24th so Suguru doesn’t end up with two death dates. Kenjaku calls Gojo’s bluff and asks if he truly doesn’t believe he’ll lose. Confident as ever, Gojo doesn’t hesitate to declare his victory.[1]

December 24th, the decided date for the showdown, arrives a month later. Sukuna waits in Shinjuku with Uraume while Gojo goes to Shibuya with IjichiUtahime, and Gakuganji. Even from a great distance, Sukuna can sense Gojo’s cursed energy but Ijichi puts up a barrier to conceal their first move. Utahime uses her Solo Forbidden Area technique and advances it into a ritual with different gestures including music, empowered words, hand signs, and dancing. This ritual amplifies Gojo’s cursed energy and he further increases the output with hand signs and incantations of his own.[2]

Battle

Satoru Gojo using 200% Hollow Purple

Gojo unleashes Hollow Purple at 200%!

Gojo draws first blood with his pre-emptive strike, unleashing an amplified Hollow Purple at 200% output. The imaginary mass that rushes forth carves through Shibuya and Shinjuku to reach Sukuna. Sukuna doesn’t notice the attack until the last moment because of Ijichi’s barrier. He misread Gojo’s opening move and is late to defend. The building he and Uraume are on is decimated and the latter is sent flying by Gojo once again. Both Sukuna’s cursed energy-reinforced arms are destroyed and Gojo teleports to his position while he’s healing them. The final faceoff occurs between the strongest sorcerer of today and the strongest sorcerer in history. Before they begin, Gojo taunts Sukuna by telling him he’s the challenger in this battle of the strongest.[3]

Satoru Gojo and Sukuna's first clash

The strongest begin their clash with hand-to-hand combat.

After restoring his arms, Sukuna tells Gojo he’s acting too cocky for someone who landed a measly surprise attack. He takes his battle stance as he calls the mighty Satoru Gojo just another nameless fish on his chopping block. Gojo takes off his outer robes and assumes his fighting pose as well, taunting Sukuna for wearing Megumi’s face. The two strongest are poised to clash with fists shrouded in cursed energy. Gojo tells Sukuna he made a mistake dying once in Yuji’s body and adds that he’ll worry about Megumi later.

Satoru Gojo evading Sukuna's punch

Gojo outmenuevering Sukuna with clever manipulation of space.

Gojo and Sukuna engage in hand-to-hand combat. Sukuna throws a right kick but Gojo halts it with the Infinity while readying a counterpunch. Sukuna envelops himself in domain amplification and parries Gojo’s punch away. At the same time, both fighters throw left hands at body level, which are halted by each other’s techniques. Sukuna tries to follow up with a right uppercut but Gojo suddenly lowers himself just above the ground, levitating horizontally completely out of Sukuna’s punching range. As Sukuna looks down, Gojo uses Blue to send him crashing through a building. Just before Sukuna regains his footing, Gojo chases and stomps at him., destroying the ground with every consecutive step in pursuit. Sukuna evades by rolling and jumping back until he eventually reaches a bridge. Gojo collapses a bridge section with a single step and unbalanced his opponent’s footing. He levitates in the air as Sukuna falls with the structure. Before it hits the ground, Gojo uses Blue to send it and Sukuna into another building.

Sukuna pursuing Gojo through a building

Sukuna pursues Gojo through a falling building.

Sukuna jumps away from the platform onto a rooftop before it crashes and dashes back toward Gojo. He leaps toward his air-bound opponent and points a finger gun at him, activating Dismantle. Sukuna isn’t aiming for Gojo and cuts the building behind him in half. The top half of the building falls toward Gojo from behind while Sukuna approaches from the front with a reinforced punch. Gojo blocks the punch with the Infinity, leading to another clash between it and Sukuna’s amplification, all while half a skyscraper descends towards them. Gojo negates the clash and catches Sukuna’s fist, allowing them to touch and fly up, pulling them into the falling structure.

Sukuna rips a door off its hinges and throws it between them. They both charge up cursed energy-reinforced punches and their simultaneous strikes decimate the entire building as it hits the ground. Gojo and Sukuna walk out of the massive wreckage unscathed, with the former claiming he’ll blame all the damage on the latter. Sukuna replies no one will ever believe that and Gojo remembers Mei Mei is live-streaming the fight on the internet.[4]

Unlimited Void vs

A clash of the strongest domains!

Gojo and Sukuna activate domain expansion simultaneously, leading to a stalemate between Unlimited Void and Malevolent Shrine inside Gojo’s barrier. However, Malevolent Shrine has an open barrier, with its range extending outside of Gojo’s enclosed barrier. Sukuna slashes apart Gojo’s barrier from the outside, completely collapsing Unlimited Void. As a result, Malevolent Shrine’s guaranteed-hit strikes, slashing Gojo’s neck.[5]

Gojo instantly heals his neck wound with reverse cursed technique but a barrage of slashes from Malevolent Shrine follow. The rapid-fire attacks slice Gojo all across his body, causing him to bleed profusely from the deep cuts. He withstands the onslaught by using reverse cursed technique at maximum output to heal himself continuously. Gojo maintains his composure despite his disadvantage, glad that the Limitless is a far superior cursed technique when it comes down to it.

Satoru Gojo hit by Malevolent Shrine

Gojo relentlessly slashed after his domain is shattered.

Gojo tries to flee out of the domain’s range but Sukuna immediately pursues him. Running side by side, Sukuna throws a punch that Gojo parries, forcing him to stop running. Sukuna follows up with a body kick that Gojo catches before throwing a left hook as a counter. Sukuna ducks under the punch and rolls into guard on the ground, wrapping Gojo’s legs with his own. Gojo throws a downward punch that Sukuna narrowly gets his head out of the way of before returning to his feet. Thinking to themselves, Sukuna admits Gojo can still move well in this situation while Gojo figures out the domain’s center is the shrine and not Sukuna himself.

Sukuna stops Gojo from escaping

Sukuna keeps Gojo within range of Malevolent Shrine.

Gojo activates simple domain while simultaneously healing himself, somehow manipulating cursed energy while using reverse cursed technique. Sukuna steps into the simple domain’s barrier as it’s withered away by his superior domain. He throws a right hook but Gojo ducks under it. Before Gojo can counterattack, his simple domain is destroyed and more slashes instantly injure him. Gojo immediately activates simple domain again but this time he stops using reverse cursed technique. He tries to fend off Sukuna with a kick but it’s blocked and his simple domain is quickly again, resulting in more cuts across his body.

Satoru Gojo restores his technique

Gojo restores his exhausted technique and blasts Sukuna with Red.

Suddenly, Gojo closes the distance to Sukuna in an instant, surprising the King of Curses with his speed. He grabs onto Sukuna in a hugging position while wrapping his legs around his waist. Then Gojo leans backward while holding his legs in position to maintain his balance, firing Red at point-blank range to Sukuna’s face. The blast from Red sends Sukuna crashing into the shrine while Gojo heals his wounds. Gojo replenished his exhausted innate technique with reverse cursed technique, an uncanny feat that his allies viewing the battle can’t understand.[6]

This inexplicable feat halts Sukuna’s overwhelming momentum. Gojo completely heals all of his injuries and Sukuna recovers from his as well. The instant Sukuna expands Malevolent Shrine’s range to its maximum, Gojo expands his domain again. He switches the external and internal conditions of his barrier to make it capable of resisting attacks from the outside. While the can’t-miss attacks cancel each other out, Gojo and Sukuna engage in hand-to-hand combat. Sukuna parries away Gojo’s kick and grabs his leg while countering with an elbow. Gojo blocks the elbow but Sukuna hand fights until Gojo’s hands are out of position to defend. Sukuna capitalizes with several rapid jabs to Gojo’s chest before finishing a combo with a chop that knocks his head back.

Satoru Gojo lands a body shot on Sukuna

Gojo pressures Sukuna while their can’t-miss attacks are cancelled out.

Gojo is surprised Sukuna can use expansion and amplification at the same time and notes that his output is rising as well. Sukuna comes at him to capitalize but Gojo refocuses on fighting and throws a right straight. Sukuna is startled by the sudden attack but he dodges outside to the right of with and counterattacks with a left hook. Gojo ducks under the hook and avoids a follow-up right from Sukuna as well. He lands a powerful counterpunch to Sukuna’s ribs but Sukuna takes the blow in stride and spins around behind Gojo. He grabs Gojo’s leg and while they’re back-to-back, he deactivates his can’t-miss attack within the barrier. Sukuna narrows Malevolent Shrine’s range and increases its power even further than he did against Mahoraga in Shibuya. Using a binding vow, he increases the output of slashes outside Gojo’s barrier in exchange for removing the sure-hit effect within it. By doing so while also keeping himself safe from Unlimited Void by touching Gojo, Sukuna once again shatters his opponent’s domain.

Sukuna breaks Gojo's tiny barrier

Both domains collapse simultaneously on the third clash.

Slashes from Malevolent Shrine immediately bombard Gojo and knock him back. Instead of simple domain, Gojo activates Falling Blossom Emotion to defend himself. This programs his cursed energy to counter the slashes on impact, resulting in shallower cuts than before. Gojo buys enough time to restore his exhausted innate technique and expands his domain. This time he expands the barrier’s size to rival Sukuna’s domain range before shrinking it to the size of a sports ball.[7]

Satoru Gojo punches Sukuna away

Gojo overpowers Sukuna outside the domains.

The tiny barrier increases its density to resist attacks from the outside. Sukuna decreases the range of his domain to increase the output of his technique, resulting in stronger slashes that ravage Gojo’s barrier. After three minutes, Gojo’s barrier shatters but Malevolent Shrine collapses as well. Sukuna destroyed Gojo’s domain from the outside and Gojo damaged Sukuna enough to where he couldn’t maintain his domain. Sukuna jumps up to a nearby elevated roadway while Gojo pursues him from below. Gojo punches through the bottom of the road but Sukuna evades as he tries to put space between them. Gojo rises through the bridge and uses Blue to attract himself to Sukuna. He swipes at Sukuna but it’s blocked, only knocking Sukuna back a short distance.

As the two fighters standoff, Gojo can’t help but wonder what Sukuna is planning. Instead of attacking the barrier from the inside when its internal and external barriers were flipped, Sukuna chose a riskier option. He also hasn’t used his innate technique outside of his domain. He’s only fighting with amplification when can’t-miss attacks are cancelled out, giving Gojo the advantage. Gojo had the upper hand for the three minutes they were fighting inside the domain. Regardless of all of that, Gojo is most concerned about why Sukuna hasn’t used Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique or Mahoraga. At that moment, Mahoraga’s wheel turns and Gojo suffers a nosebleed.[8]

Satoru Gojo crushes Sukuna's heart

Unlimited Void hits for less than 0.01 seconds, allowing Gojo to crush Sukuna’s heart.

The two strongest sorcerers activate domain expansion simultaneously once again. Gojo supercharges his fists with cursed energy and unleashes rapid-fire straight punches. Sukuna blocks his face with his arms but Gojo slides behind him and forcibly attracts Sukuna to the shrine with Blue. Sukuna crashes into the shrine and Gojo pulls him back toward him by switching the center of attraction to himself. Gojo throws a powerful downward punch that Sukuna narrowly blocks while being flung through the air. Eventually, both domains collapse just as they did before and Gojo sends Sukuna flying back with a left hook. Gojo is faster to restore his exhausted technique because Sukuna needed to heal his body. It’s by less than a centisecond but Gojo expands his domain before Sukuna. Unlimited Void’s effect lands for that short amount of time, only slightly staggering Sukuna. This gives Gojo the opening to crush Sukuna’s heart in a single blow. Sukuna continues fighting but reaches his limit two minutes and forty seconds later before he can destroy Gojo’s barrier. He’s completely bathed in Unlimited Void and Gojo attempts to capitalize, targeting his lungs and liver to bring him as close to death as possible.

Mahoraga destroys Gojo's domain

Mahoraga adapts to Unlimited Void.

However, before Gojo can finish Sukuna, Mahoraga is suddenly summoned within the domain. Gojo is confused by the timing and tries to eliminate Mahoraga in one shot using Cursed Technique Reversal: Red. Mahoraga surprises Gojo further when it slams the Sword of Extermination into the domain and shatters it in an instant. Gojo can’t understand how it could’ve possibly adapted to Unlimited Void already.[9]

Sukuna heals himself and retracts Mahoraga into his shadow. Gojo realizes Megumi’s soul took on the burden of adaptation so Mahoraga could counter Unlimited Void without incurring the risk of destruction. Sukuna reveals he couldn’t deploy any technique other than what was imbued in his domain while using Megumi to adapt. Gojo replies that he knows Sukuna only had Megumi shoulder the burden of the adaptation but not the results. Neither Sukuna nor Megumi’s soul has adapted, only Mahoraga. Gojo believes by expanding his domain again, he can force Sukuna to bring out Mahoraga and destroy it in one shot. However, Gojo’s nose spurts blood profusely when he tries to activate domain expansion.

Satoru Gojo punches Sukuna

With both fighters unable to expand their domains, the gong rings on round two!

Gojo was damaging the engraving of his Limitless technique in his brain and then healing it with reverse cursed technique to forcibly restore his exhausted technique after every domain clash. After doing this five times, he’s reached his limit and falls to his knees, unable to open his domain due to the accumulated damage to his brain.

Sukuna threatens to enclose his barrier to finish Gojo while adapting to his Infinity. However, Sukuna can’t open his domain either and bleeds from his face. He didn’t forcibly restore his technique as many times but his brain received heavy damage from being caught in Unlimited Void. Amused, Gojo tells Sukuna that his students are watching and he’s going to continue showing off. He uses Blue to pull Sukuna toward him with his left hand and lands a heavily reinforced right hook across Sukuna’s face.[10]

Satoru Gojo throwing Sukuna

Gojo rakes Sukuna across the side of a building.

Gojo drags Sukuna by the collar across the side of a building, breaking apart the outer walls as he flies through the air with his opponent in tow. He throws Sukuna down toward the street and attracts all the debris they created to him with Blue. Sukuna lands on his feet but all the pieces of debris converge to trap him. Sukuna is only immobilized momentarily before breaking out but Gojo is ready for him. Gojo throws a flying kick at Sukuna’s head and he ducks under it only to realize that Gojo has created an orb of Blue above them. Blue attracts Sukuna upward and Gojo attempts to stomp on his head as it is being raised. However, Sukuna cleverly uses Blue’s attraction to lift the back of his lower body and flip forward quickly enough to avoid Gojo’s attack. He activates amplification and attacks with a flipping kick but Gojo evades behind him. Gojo creates several illusions of himself as a diversion but Sukuna sees through it. One of the fakes attacks but Sukuna ignores it and turns around to catch the real Gojo’s punch.

Satoru Gojo clashing with Sukuna

Gojo trying to kill Sukuna before Mahoraga adapts to the Infinity.

Sukuna lands a right counterpunch and Gojo narrowly slips in his palm between the fist and his face to slightly reduce the impact. Gojo is still sent flying and grabs onto a traffic light to regain his balance. Mahoraga’s wheel turns on Sukuna’s head and Gojo thinks about how it turns black whenever Sukuna uses amplification. Despite being unable to expand his domain, Sukuna can still use amplification, which Gojo assumes interrupts the adaptation process. Sukuna reflects on how Gojo is only using Blue to avoid having Mahoraga adapt to anything else. The traffic light turns green and the two re-engage in battle. They clash in the middle of the street and Gojo uses Blue to pull the traffic light to Sukuna from behind. Sukuna grabs it and throws it Gojo but the Infinity stops it. Gojo reveals that he knows the adaptation process will be complete in three more spins, making it four total for Mahoraga to adapt to the Infinity. Amused, Sukuna declares the countdown has begun but Gojo is confident he’ll kill Sukuna before it’s completed.[11]

Sukuna hit from behind with Red

“Red hasn’t exploded yet”

Gojo pursues Sukuna through the street as the wheel turns for a second time. He shrouds his fists in orbs of Blue and launches them at his opponent as Sukuna dives through structural pillars to evade. While balancing on the side of a wall, Sukuna is suddenly surrounded by eight orbs of blue. They all converge on him at once but he jumps out of the way in time. He leaps backward to avoid the pursuing orbs but Gojo flanks him. They clash in mid-air, with Gojo grabbing Sukuna’s kick while throwing a counter elbow that’s blocked. Gojo kicks Sukuna down and one of the orbs carves away flesh near his ribs as it flies by him. Mahoraga’s wheel spins again and Gojo hits Sukuna inside a building.

Satoru Gojo's Black Flash

Black Flash!

Deciding now is the best time to pour on the pressure, Gojo gets behind a pillar and fires Red through it. Gojo believes that he’s convinced his opponent that he’ll only use Blue and doubts Sukuna will react well to this timing. However, Sukuna activates amplification in time to reduce the damage. Gojo floats back and attracts the broken debris toward Sukuna but he simply wipes it all aside. Sukuna taunts him for failing at his surprise attack but Gojo reveals Red hasn’t exploded yet. Red circles around the layout of the building and lands a direct hit to Sukuna’s back. Gojo capitalizes and lands a powerful Black Flash to the sternum that knocks the King of Curses unconscious.

Mahoraga’s wheel falls from Sukuna’s head but it spins immediately after landing on the ground. Mahoraga’s arms erupt from the shadows and immobilize Gojo’s upper body, dragging him down into the shadows. This allows Mahoraga to slash Gojo across the shoulder with the Sword of Extermination completely bypassing the Infinity.[12] The thought of losing enters Gojo’s mind, reminding him of his encounter with Toji Zenin. Yet, Gojo is not overcome with fear, but a far more intense sensation, the feeling of deep satisfaction.

Mahoraga slashes Gojo

Mahoraga adapts to the Infinity and cuts Gojo.

Gojo pummels Mahoraga’s face with a three-hit combo, a right and left cross followed by a double palm strike that knocks the shikigami back. Gojo’s output has fallen due to his injuries but he attempts to restore it by reciting the incantation for Red. Before the technique is unleashed, Sukuna activates Rabbit Escape from Gojo’s shadow to obscure his view. Gojo says Sukuna is still hurting from that Black Flash and aims at the shadow. He blasts Red through the ground and pursues Sukuna through a large corridor. Having adapted to the Infinity, Gojo assumes Mahoraga will serve as the primary offense while Sukuna protects it from destruction. Sukuna throws a fire extinguisher at Gojo, creating a smokescreen when it hits the Infinity. Mahoraga attacks from above while Sukuna assumes the firing stance for Piercing Blood. Using Max Elephant‘s water, Sukuna fires an imitation of Piercing Blood at Gojo through the smokescreen. Gojo is surprised while blocking Mahoraga’s attack and the Piercing Blood cuts his arm open as he devotes one arm to block it at the last moment. Mahoraga slashes its blade at Gojo again but he evades to the side.

Satoru Gojo fighting Mahoraga and Agito

Mahoraga and Agito attacking Gojo.

At a heavy disadvantage, Gojo reads over his situation. He believes Sukuna is going to attack him whenever Mahoraga creates an opening, making this fight a traditional two-on-one. Gojo knows Sukuna can’t use Shrine and the Ten Shadows Technique at the same time but assumes he’ll continue using more shikigami now that Mahoraga has adapted. Gojo assumes it’ll take more time to adapt to Red, which he prefers to having his abilities negated one after the other. Sukuna interrupts Gojo’s train of thought by telling him he’s mistaken if he thinks the fight is two-on-one. He summons Merged Beast Agito and states this fight is actually a three-on-one.

Mahoraga and Agito attack Gojo at the same time, forcing him to retreat backward. Sukuna appears from Gojo’s shadow and fires another Piercing Blood up at him. Gojo avoids the projectile and throws a downward punch at the shadow. Sukuna backflips out of the way while Mahoraga moves to attack Gojo from behind. Gojo slips Mahoraga’s punch while Agito attempts to circle behind and grab him. Gojo gets behind Mahoraga instead and fires Red at its head at close range. It does much less damage than normal not only due to Gojo’s low output, but the adaptation process. Sukuna was hit by one Red head-on, making Gojo assume the adaptation is gradual rather than binary. He decides this means he’ll have to end this fight using an unlimited Hollow Purple.[13]

Satoru Gojo's arm severed

Mahoraga adapts further to the Infinity and severs Gojo’s arm.

Sukuna’s shikigami pursue Gojo outdoors back onto the streets of Shinjuku. Agito attempts to grab Gojo but he ducks under its arms. Gojo lunges forward to avoid a downward attack from Mahoraga while simultaneously landing a Black Flash that destroys Agito’s midsection. The shikigami quickly regenerates its abdomen with reverse cursed technique and counterattacks with its tail, Great Serpent. Gojo rips the head off of Great Snake but that quickly regenerates as well. Agito is a “Totality” shikigami comprised of Nue, Great Serpent, Tiger Funeral, and Round Deer. The latter’s regenerative abilities mean Gojo will have to take it down in one shot, the same as Mahoraga.

Mahoraga cuts the ground and sends the debris at Gojo. The Infinity stops the gravel but Mahoraga uses the diversion to strike again. Gojo jumps back and wraps his leg around Mahoraga’s arm while still watching Agito. In one motion, Gojo sweeps Mahoraga aside with his leg while turning to face the other shikigami. Gojo disperses the electric current between Agito’s hands and calls it a one-trick pony before landing a strong right hook that sends the shikigami reeling back. Gojo’s first priority is to crush Agito before it can heal Sukuna.

Sukuna and Mahoraga hit Gojo

Sukuna and his shikigami overwhelm Gojo.

As Gojo continues to fight with the duo of shikigami, Sukuna watches from the shadows and contemplates the situation. He’s disappointed with Mahoraga’s showing so far and emphasizes that the Divine General belongs to him now, not Megumi. He demands that Mahoraga show its true power, and on cue, its wheel turns again. Mahoraga further adapts to the Infinity and throws a flying slash that cuts Gojo’s right arm clean off. As Gojo slowly recovers his arm, the two shikigami capitalize on his weakened defenses. Sukuna reappears from the shadows and attacks as well, pursuing Gojo up the side of a building. Mahoraga knocks Gojo back with a punch and Sukuna lands a head kick that sends him flying. Agito flanks Gojo and attempts to land an electrified punch from behind while Gojo is reeling.

Satoru Gojo destroys Agito

Gojo destroys Merged Beast Agito with a maximum output Blue.

However, Gojo halts his momentum and stops the punch with the Infinity. He turns to face Agito armed with a sphere of Blue around his remaining fist. Gojo jams Blue into Agito’s core and unleashes the technique at maximum cursed energy output. Agito implodes on itself and Gojo sends the max output Blue at Sukuna. Mahoraga helps Sukuna avoid Blue but Agito is completely destroyed by the technique.[14] Gojo regenerates his arm as consecutive Black Flashes have restored his reverse cursed technique output. Enthralled, a rush of exhilaration overcomes Gojo. In contrast, the King of Curses is experiencing the height of tension and feels uneasy for the first time in a millennium.

Mahoraga protects Sukuna from Satoru's Black Flash

Gojo lands consecutive Black Flashes.

Gojo lands another Black Flash, hitting Mahoraga with a right straight that knocks the shikigami back behind its master. Sukuna attempts to counterattack with a punch but Gojo grabs his arm and then throws him into Mahoraga. The shikigami catches Sukuna but Gojo follows up with another Black Flash. Mahoraga blocks the right straight empowered by the sparks of black but still crashes through the building from the impact. After creating distance, Gojo recites the incantation for Red. Sukuna prepares to have Mahoraga take the hit so it can adapt but Gojo suddenly fires Red into the air instead. Sukuna is a moment late to realize his opponent’s plan and screams for Mahoraga to take action.

The sphere of Blue that destroyed Agito remains floating in the sky. Gojo is attempting to merge it with Red to unleash a remote explosion with Purple. Mahoraga jumps through several stories of the building to the outside in an attempt to destroy Blue before Red reaches it. However, Mahoraga is unaffected by Blue’s field of attraction to boost its speed. This allows Gojo to outpace and intercept Mahoraga by using Blue to boost his speed. Gojo lands a right straight to Mahoraga’s chin while Sukuna fires Piercing Blood at Red in an attempt to make it prematurely explode. Gojo hits Sukuna in the ribs with a left hook but he’s already fired off the attack.

Purple explodes in Shinjuku

Gojo unleashes an unlimited Hollow Purple.

Gojo quickly recites the incantation for Blue to increase its output, empowering the sphere to swallow the stream of water before it hits Red. Outmaneuvered, Sukuna and Mahoraga look up at Gojo in anticipation of his ultimate attack. Gojo chants the incantation for Purple as Red and Blue converge into one, resulting in an imaginary mass that rushes force and decimates the entire area in a massive explosion. Mahoraga and its wheel are destroyed by the attack but Sukuna narrowly survives.

Sukuna kills Satoru Gojo

Sukuna kills Satoru Gojo with a slash that cuts the world.

Sukuna is grievously injured with heavy burns all across his body, a severed left, and hardly enough stamina to stand. Gojo was hit as well because it was an unlimited Purple unleashed without a specific target, the first time he’s ever blown himself up. He received far less damage due to the explosion being comprised of his own cursed energy. Gojo heals and commends himself for improvising a brand new move at the last moment as his victory appears to be assured.[15]

However, Sukuna was using Mahoraga’s adaptation as a model to breach the Infinity. Mahoraga’s initial adaptation changed the attributes of its cursed energy to negate the Infinity, something Sukuna couldn’t do himself. Sukuna waited until Mahoraga’s second adaption, which wasn’t a flying slash, but an expansion of Mahoraga’s target. The slash was not targeting Gojo, but the entire space and world around them. Sukuna used this model to expand the target of his Dismantle to cut the world itself with no regard for the Infinity. Sukuna’s world-cutting slash bisected Gojo horizontally, completely severing the top half of his body. Satoru Gojo is killed and Sukuna is victorious in the battle of the strongest.[16]

Aftermath

Sukuna praises Gojo at the end

“You were magnificent Satoru Gojo. I’ll never forget you as long as I live.”

Sukuna commends Gojo for his performance. He calls Gojo magnificent and swears to always remember him. Gojo spends the final moments of his life in a fantasy with his fallen allies, including Suguru Geto. He has no regrets and thoroughly enjoyed fighting to his fullest, only finding it a shame that Sukuna wasn’t able to do the same.

Satoru Gojo finds peace and satisfaction at his end, but his allies must continue fighting for the fate of the world. They leap into action without taking any time to mourn Gojo. First to face Sukuna is the God of Lightning, Hajime Kashimo. Sukuna is elated after enjoying the battle with Gojo and tells Kashimo he has no right to spoil the moment.[17]
