Our European eTwinning project “1,2,3…From our schools to the zoo!” is coming to an end soon and what follows is the collaborative digital book created by all participant preschools / kindergartens (2 from France, 1 from Italy and 1 – ours from Greece).

It is not just a counting picture book but also a multilingual book with audio narration in English, the modern lingua franca and working language of our project, as well as in the first languages (L1) of participant countries; that is, in French, Italian and Greek!

The book is entitled “1,2,3…Hot air balloons in the heart of EU!” and on its cover you can see the collaborative logo of our project. It introduces children to numbers 1-10, while following the heart-shaped journey of (national and not only) animals to European countries in lovely hot air balloons bearing the flag of each country destination.

The illustration is the creative result of students’ work and all authors / contributors are mentioned on the last page of our digital multimodal book on BookCreator.

So glad to have been part of such a creative and wonderful project, exchanging ideas, sharing precious moments together during online meetings, helping our students acquire a variety of skills while developing as teachers ourselves too!

eTwinning Project “1,2,3…From Our Schools To The Zoo!” Mrs. Angheliki’s English Class

In March 2026 our English class prepared and performed some more songs either co-decided for the online meetings with our partners or for our shared recorded videos before Easter. In particular,

The students had fun singing, dancing as well as accompanying their multilingual singing with percussion (maracas, bells, tambourines etc)

It’s nice to meet you!

In addition, having already practised Easter voc and wishes in our lessons, we decided to make a digital Easter postcard for our Italian and French friends by using Canva. Students made some drawings expressing their emotions of love and friendship and I helped them render the text in English (multimodal product: images plus written language).

Also, it is worth mentioning our in-class brainstorming activities (via teacher’s questions and AnswerGarden) that enabled us to come up with our own title proposals for the collaborative book.

Last, as our project is slowly coming to an end, we also carried out a self-assessment activity in the form of “can do” statements (whole-class). Our students were really excellent having acquired most of the project’s skills! Below you can see the “questionnaire” and the emoji cards the students raised to answer:

After Easter all participant students and teachers will have a final all-schools online meeting for the presentation of our BookCreator collaborative counting book. We are looking forward to it, until then…

eTwinning Project “1,2,3…From Our Schools to the Zoo”, Mrs Angheliki’s English Class

February was the month mainly dedicated to:

• online meetings, collaboration and game-like interaction with our eTwinning partner schools (Italy, France)
• the creation of our digital collaborative counting book; particularly speaking, our English class was responsible for the creation of page number 3

In our lessons, in preparation for the meetings with our eTwinning partners, we learned and practised the following co-decided English action songs:

We also learned and practised multilingual greetings in English, Italian and French such as Hello, Good morning, Goodbye, Buongiorno, Ciao, Arrivederci, Bonjour, Au revoir

As for the book creation, after guessing the national animal of Greece (the dolphin), our English class worked in groups and illustrated the 3rd page of the common, collaborative, counting book. To achieve that we used various Art / Craft materials and techniques and hence, our three dolphins managed to travel to Greece in a hot air balloon!

The artwork was also accompanied by two bilingual recordings of the same sentence in both English and Greek (oral production of speech):

The result of our art / illustration work was also pinned on the school’s bulletin board .

Apart from the 3 dolphins finally included on page 3 (those voted by the students of the French school), we also used the rest and made an extra poster depicting the national animal of our homeland.

Through our engagement we developed various skills related to Numeracy, Language and Communication, Art and Creativity, Cultural Awareness / European Citizenship to mention but a few.

To celebrate World Hug Day 2026:

1) We brainstormed around friendship and ways of showing our love

2) We watched the animation short film “Wings” about solidarity and empathy between friends and discussed

3) We watched a read aloud video of “The Colour Monster” regarding emotions and shared our own, as well as how we feel when we have OR don’t have a friend

4) We played, sang and danced to the music of various songs such as “Friends, friends, 1,2,3” and the action song “If you are happy and you know it”, to mention but a few

5) We practised relevant voc and expressions such as love, hug, kiss, friend, pal, happy together, care, be kind, respect, I love you, play together, have fun together, share our emotions etc

6) We decided to send our hugs to the World and our loved ones abroad or just far away with:

a) a bouquet of flowers (poster)

b) two love / care (teddy) bears (poster)

c) doughnut and candy-shaped cards

d) 3D mugs of hot chocolate 

e) a heart-shaped card

7) As a Code Week activity, we helped Bee-Bot to reach Huggy the Bear and pick up beary hugs, lollipops, flowery hugs, kisses and love hearts on his way.

All done as a hymn to FRIENDSHIP, LOVE & KINDNESS with lots of hugs and kisses

Our English class (school year 2025-2026) participates in the European eTwinning project “1,2,3…From our Schools to the Zoo!” in collaboration with two Kindergartens / Preschools from France and one from Italy.

What follows is the dissemination of the eTwinning activities (icebreakers: getting to know each other, cultural awareness / exchange of customs, Eric Carle’s book) carried out in the subject of English in January 2026 through a video and a poster made with Canva plus photos.

Ένα ουράνιο τόξο στην αυλή μου!

(Το παραμύθι του θυμού)

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ζούσε σε ένα χωριό ένας νεαρός που είχε μια αμυγδαλιά. Κάθε μέρα, έβγαινε στην αυλή, την πότιζε και την αγκάλιαζε. Την άνοιξη, οι μέλισσες πετούσαν στα άσπρα και ροζ λουλούδια της και τον χειμώνα, τα σπουργίτια κάθονταν στα γυμνά κλαδιά της. Το καλοκαίρι, το δέντρο γέμιζε καρπό κι ο νεαρός τον μάζευε νωρίς το φθινόπωρο και έφτιαχνε με αυτόν αμυγδαλωτά, κέικ, πάστες, σοκολάτες, κουφέτα και όλα τα καλά.

Όμως, μια μέρα του Φλεβάρη, η αμυγδαλιά βιάστηκε να ανθίσει και όταν ήρθε ο χιονιάς την έκαψε! Μόλις την είδε ο νεαρός, θύμωσε πολύ. Πήρε ένα μαχαίρι και χάραξε τον κορμό της.

Στο λεπτό, με τρόπο μαγικό, η αμυγδαλιά μπουμπούκιασε και τα κλαδιά της γέμισαν πολύχρωμα άνθη! Ο νεαρός δεν πίστευε στα μάτια του: «Έγινε θαύμα», φώναζε, «ένα ουράνιο τόξο στην αυλή μου!». Ξαφνικά, τον τύφλωσε ένα παράξενο φως και εμφανίστηκε μπροστά του μια φτερωτή γυναίκα. Έμοιαζε με άγγελο, φορούσε σανδάλια και κρατούσε ένα αρχαίο ραβδί, ένα κηρύκειο. Ήτανε η Ίριδα, η θεά του ουράνιου τόξου και της δικαιοσύνης. Μέσα στη ζάλη του, την άκουσε να σιγοτραγουδά: «Το ουράνιο τόξο στην αυλή έχει το κόκκινο της φωτιάς και είναι καρχαρίας μπλε σε τροπικά νερά. Πράσινο, σαν το δέντρο που το φυσά ο άνεμος, καφέ-πορτοκαλί σαν χώμα και ήλιος κίτρινος καυτός. Έχει πολλά χρώματα το ουράνιο τόξο σου, μα γίνεται μοβ γάτα. Κι όσο με πείσμα το κοιτάς, θυμίζει μαύρη όρκα, που σαν την πιάσεις νιώθεις ένα κάρβουνο ζεστό που το κρατάς, φωνάζεις και όλους τους τρομάζεις!».

Πριν προλάβει να την ρωτήσει τι ήθελε να πει, η θεά εξαφανίστηκε και μαζί της χάθηκε και το πολύχρωμο δέντρο. Στη θέση του βρισκόταν πάλι η δικιά του αμυγδαλιά. Όμως δεν είχε πια πληγές κι ήταν ντυμένη νύφη.

Όταν συνήλθε ο νεαρός, έκλαψε πολύ, μα πιο πολύ κατάλαβε πως το ουράνιο τόξο στην αυλή ήτανε ο θυμός του. Κι όταν τον αναγνώρισε σε όλα του τα χρώματα, μαζί με την αμυγδαλιά, άνθισε κι η γαλήνη στην δική του την καρδιά. Κι από τότε στην αυλή, έζησαν καλά αυτοί και εμείς καλύτερα.

Τελευταία μέρα πριν κλείσουν τα σχολεία για την χριστουγεννιάτικη εορταστική περίοδο, το μαγικό κουτί μας έφερε στην τάξη ένα σετ με ζάρια αφήγησης (παραγωγής προφορικού λόγου, δημιουργικής γραφής), αλλά και κάποιες χριστουγεννιάτικες καρτέλες. Ένα – ένα παιδί έριχνε τα ζάρια, στη συνέχεια τα έβαζε στη σειρά που ήθελε και με τη βοήθεια ερωτήσεων, αλλά και χρησιμοποιώντας τις αφηγηματικές παραμυθητικές φόρμουλες έναρξης και τέλους, δημιουργούσε τη δική του σύντομη αστεία ιστορία με στοιχεία πλοκής, όπου το τέλος αλλά και η χριστουγεννιάτική της χροιά καθοριζόταν από την καρτέλα που θα επέλεγε. Οι ιστορίες καταγράφηκαν λεκτικά από εμένα και εικαστικά από τα παιδιά σε ένα φύλλο εργασίας με χριστουγεννιάτικες μπάλες και ήταν οι ακόλουθες:

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ήτανε μία γάτα που έπινε ποτό και ξαφνικά ακούστηκε ένα δυνατό “μπαμ!”. Έριξε το ποτό και μετά δε μπορούσε να κάνει τίποτα, αλλά την βοήθησε ο Ρούντολφ!

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ήταν ένα παγωτό και ένα δέντρο αληθινό ήθελε να το φάει. Ήτανε κι ένα λουλούδι και τους είπε να μη μαλώνουν και ήρθε ο Άη-Βασίλης με έλκυθρο και έζησαν αυτοί καλά κι εμείς καλύτερα!

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ήτανε ένα αληθινό δέντρο. Όταν χτύπησε το ρολόι, πήγε και είδε ότι ήταν 1 η ώρα και μετά είδε ένα αερόστατο και μπήκε μέσα και άκουσε καμπανούλες! Και έζησε καλά κι εμείς καλύτερα!

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ήτανε μια γάτα. Φόρεσε καπέλο. Βρήκε μια φάλαινα. Της έδωσε δώρα.

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ήτανε ένα δέντρο. Πήρε τηλέφωνο μια φάλαινα. Φάγανε γλυκά.

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό ήτανε μια φάλαινα. Ήθελε να πάει να πάρει παγωτό. Ήρθε ένα αμάξι και είπε ότι ήθελε αυτός το παγωτό, αλλά ήρθαν οι καλικάντζαροι και είπαν “Μη μαλώνετε!”. Και έζησαν αυτοί καλά κι εμείς καλύτερα!

 

“Run, run, as fast as you can.
You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!”

Έρχονται Χριστούγεννα και τα σπίτια μοσχομυρίζουν μπισκότα, κουλουράκια και κάθε λογής γλυκά. Μπισκότα αστεράκια, μισοφέγγαρα, δεντράκια, Ρούντολφ αλλά και μια ανθρώπινη μορφή! Η ίδια μορφή στολίζει πλέον τα χριστουγεννιάτικα δέντρα, τα κουτιά, τις γιορτινές μπλούζες και στέκες των παιδιών σε όλο τον κόσμο. Είναι ο «Gingerbread Man» (ή αλλιώς «Μπισκοτάνθρωπος – πιπερόριζα»). Μια τέτοια βιωματική ιστορία έφτασε και στην τάξη μας και αποτέλεσε αφορμή για παιδαγωγική αξιοποίηση εστιάζοντας ωστόσο στην πολυγλωσσία. Με αφορμή την βρετανική προέλευση του παραμυθιού, την αγγλική εκδοχή του βιβλίου μας και την πολυπολιτισμικότητα, μιλήσαμε για τις γλώσσες και είπαμε αρχικά «Kαλημέρα!» στην ελληνική, στην αγγλική «Good morning!», στην ιταλική «Buongiorno!», στην γερμανική «Guten Morgen!», στην γαλλική «Bonjour!»και στην αλβανική γλώσσα «Mirëmëngjes!».

Κατά την ροή της διγλωσσικής αφήγησης (αγγλικά – ελληνικά) υπήρχαν παύσεις όπου τα παιδιά συνέδραμαν εισάγοντας λέξεις από τις μητρικές τους γλώσσες (αλβανικά, γαλλικά) με «εναλλαγή κωδίκων»! Ακολούθησε συζήτηση για το περιεχόμενο του παραμυθιού αλλά και την πολυγλωσσική εμπειρία, καθώς και εικαστικές δραστηριότητες όπως η δημιουργία χριστουγεννιάτικης κάρτας (τεχνική: stencil / pochoir, σφουγγάρι, τέμπερα, μπατονέτα κλπ.).
