Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November and has its roots in religious and cultural traditions.Thanksgiving, as its name suggests, is the day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. This day actually gives people the chance to give thanks for what they have.

On this day families and friends get together and have a special meal. A traditional thanksgiving meal includes stuffed turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie and vegetables. Some people have the day after thanksgiving off as well and have the opportunity to enjoy a four-day weekend either by travelling and visiting family and friends or doing things they love.

The day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday.  This day actually marks the beginning of the Christmas Shopping Season  in the US, and most major retailers open very early and offer promotional sales.
